Lomeshaye Life It has been another busy week in school with lots of new and exciting learning taking place. Some of our Year 5 children have started to make use of our new school garden and have completed their first lot of planting, they are hoping to be successful garlic growers and had great fun exploring the garden and learning how to plant and look after their crop. Well done to everyone who made it to school this week. We have smashed our whole school attendance target for the second week in a row and achieved 97.9%. Every single class beat the target of 96%, what a fantastic achievement. This is great news. Let’s see if we can keep it up next week too! Attendance Raffle Winners— this morning during our celebration assembly we drew our first attendance raffle of the new school year. Each week children who have attended every day get raffle tickets and at the end of the month we pick a winner from lower juniors and one from upper juniors to have a prize of cinema tickets to use with their families as a thank you for coming to school every day. This month our winner in lower juniors was Zahra from 4 Sycamore and in upper juniors Ali from 5 Larch. We hope you enjoy a great trip to the cinema soon. Harvest Collection—during October we will be collecting food items to distribute to the old and needy in our community. This is something that we like to do each year and our School Council organise the event. You will be receiving a letter shortly from the School Council to explain what items they would like you to donate. All of the items collected will be packaged and delivered to residents at Imperial Gardens on Norfolk Street as well as other local charity organisations. Start of Black History Month— October is a special month in the international calendar as it is Black History Month. This is a month that is recognised all over the world as being one to celebrate the achievements of Black and Ethnic Minority people. There are many people from minority groups who have influenced and shaped the world making it a better place. Pupils will be learning about some of these remarkable people in school and celebrating their many and varied achievements. Tuesday 2nd—School governor to visit Year 6 classes.

Wednesday 3rd— Year 6 Able and Talented Maths Event at Primet Academy. Parent Drop in Sessions—Year 6 applications for high school 11.15-12.15. Thursday 4th—Lancashire Book Bus visiting 1.15-2.45pm. Friday 5th—Year 5 Family Friday Event.
