Autumn Edition 2018/19 Welcome to this autumn edition of our newsletter. This edition reflects on the many events that took place at the end of the last academic year, such as our successful Middle Leader and Post 16 Conferences. You will also find articles on both Student Public Speaking Competitions, along with coverage of our very first Student Media Competition that took place at Hope University and featured in the August edition of the Catholic Pic. Our Head of Department meetings return this term with exam boards attending to focus on feedback from first time sitting of exams, and further information can be found on page 12.

Middle Leaders Conference Our very first Middle Leader Conference took place on Thursday 14th June 2018. This event was for aspirational middle leaders looking to move on to senior leadership in the coming years. The day covered Spiritual leadership, Archdiocesan vision and strategic plan, Dealing with challenging situations, Managing change, Leadership styles and Time management.
Presentations came from Eamonn Mulcahy, Tim Warren, Cathy McKeagney from St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School, Karl Smith from Carmel College, Anne-Marie Horrocks from St Mary’s in Leyland and Valerie Elson from St Edmund Arrowsmith Catholic High School in Wigan. Positive feedback was received, with colleagues comments as below: ‘Eamonn was excellent, really inspiring. This has definitely given me an insight into a SL role. It was very good!’ ‘I enjoyed the course and have taken some examples from peoples experiences that I can draw upon in the future!’ ‘I enjoyed the day. Great venue and it is always good to hear from experienced colleagues. I have taken bits and pieces from all the presentations and found the day very worthwhile.’
