Pearson Teaching Awards 2020 The Pearson National Teaching Awards are the ‘Oscars’ of the teaching profession.

They were set up to recognise and celebrate excellence in education on a UK-wide basis. Run by the Teaching Awards Trust and supported by Pearson and the BBC, they are the UK’s most prestigious celebration of transformational teaching. The Awards honour exceptional teaching and culminate in a glittering awards ceremony televised by the BBC. Our vision is a teaching profession with high morale and a society that values and celebrates the great work that is done by teachers and leaders in education.

This is your chance to celebrate excellence in your school. It’s easy to enter the awards, and it makes such a difference! Entry is free, and the awards are open to all state and independent schools and FE colleges in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Entries close at midnight on Friday 28th February 2020.

BBC Radio 2 500 words short story Opportunity for students to enter a writing competition. This may support work that the school is currently doing. Entrants must write a fictional short story (no more than 500 words in length). Entry is via an online entry form available at www.bbc.co.uk/500words.

Student Media Competition 25th June 2020 Further to this being featuredNewsletter—Edition in our spring newsletter,1 we can now confirm that this event will take Winter 2015 place again at Hope University in Liverpool.

This form will close on 3rd April and colleagues will be contacted for further information regarding their entries after the Easter holidays.

Public Speaking Competitions 2020 Following last year’s successful events, we will again be holding Public Speaking Competitions for all clusters.

Each cluster contest is open to 11–14 year old students (Year 7, 8 and 9 only). The overall aim of the contest is to foster presentation and communication skills in young students, as all walks of life, especially the business world, are increasingly reliant on these abilities.

There is a trophy for the winning school to retain for one year and certificates for all those taking part.

We do hope you can put forward a candidate/s (maximum of 2), boys or girls, as representative/s of your school. We are sure all participating students will have much to gain and nothing to lose in taking part in a friendly and stimulating atmosphere.

Repeat Items Supporting character development through education as reflected in the new Ofsted framework (Free Event) The awarding body, SLQ, are inviting colleagues to attend one of their FREE events for SLTs in the North West in March The events will look at why character development is important and how this is reflected in the requirements of the new Ofsted framework. It will include a case study from a school delivering the new personal skills programme.

Health and Safety PASMA Course 21st February 2020 St Bede’s are running a health and safety PASMA training course for school staff on Friday 21st February The qualification is a statutory requirement for school staff using scaffolding towers. The qualification is renewable every three years.
