This will be an informative and engaging event. The event will take place on Thursday 17th October 2019 (9am – 3.50pm) at Crowne Plaza Liverpool City Centre. Tea/Coffee will be provided throughout the day as well as lunch.

We are able to provide all schools with one free place, but places will be limited so we do recommend early registration. Student Media Competition 2019 Tuesday’s event was a great success and further details will follow in next week’s flyer.

Free CPD - MFL The last of our subject specific training sessions in partnership with Pearson will take place next week.

The event will run from 1.30pm until 4.00pm and is free of charge to colleagues within the Trust.

The MFL ‘Building strong foundations at Key Stage 3’ session will take place on Friday 5th July and colleagues can book here to attend http://w.pfrms.co/c7nj5 This half-day workshop is designed for teachers who are looking to build strong foundations at Key Stage 3 in preparation for GCSE. Delegates will: Observe models of how translation and literary texts can be taught and exploited in the classroom, - Work with colleagues to prepare translation activities and activities using literary texts - Learn new methods to help students use the target language more effectively in speech

Physics Partners Programme 2019/20 This free programme is open to all schools who wish to have a science teacher(s) who will attend six sessions through the academic year. It is aimed at colleagues whose science specialism isn’t physics and the focus will be on teaching practical GCSE. Attached you will find further information about the Physics Partners initiative.

St John Bosco Teaching School: CPLD Opportunities Curriculum Design Conference for Science – 4th July 2019 from 4 – 5.30pm A workshop designed by the Royal Society of Chemistry for secondary science teachers to support and provide ideas for designing your own GSCE curriculum to meet your own student’s needs.

We will also be looking at guidance from the EEF report and articles and resources produced by Education in Chemistry to support their recommendations.

Light refreshments will be available on arrival.

The event is being hosted at St John Bosco Arts College.

Liverpool’s NOW Festival Liverpool's NOW Festival - a young person's drama and arts festival seeking to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health- is going on tour! De La Salle School, King's Leadership Academy, the Academy of St Francis of Assisi and St Julie's Catholic High School present pieces looking at the impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Please find attached a flier with more information on what each of the performances are about.

The mental health promotion team at Merseyside Youth Association, a Liverpool CAMHS partnership, has devised activities to go alongside the performances to highlight the message of the piece.

As a reminder, MASSOLIT offers over 2,700 short curriculum-relevant video lectures produced specifically for students aged 15-19 by top international academics across four subject areas: English Literature, History, Classics, and Philosophy. The final deadline for completing the form is 23rd August, but we can take orders now if you wish to confirm it before the holidays start. AQA Curriculum Clinic Please find below an invitation to have AQA visit your school. If this is of interest please contact Ben Galvin, Relationship Manager (North West), directly at bgalvin@aqa.org.uk Dear Colleague, My name is Ben Galvin and I am your AQA Relationship Manager. My role is to provide face to face support to your centre throughout the academic year.

I would like to come in and meet with you before the summer holidays where we could discuss some or all of the following: • • • • • •

If the above would be of interest then I would love to come in and meet with you. I would usually run this as a Curriculum Clinic, which is a free of charge service, where I can meet with you initially and then with Subject Heads individually for approximately half an hour each on a drop-in basis. Pastoral Leaders Meeting 9th July 2019 The next Pastoral Leaders meeting will take place 1.30pm until 4.00pm on 9th July at St Julie's Catholic High School.

Merseyside Youth Action will attend to discuss sharing of best practice in schools around mental health, along with some key areas of work that focus on mental health promotion.

The Youth Sports Trust will also be present to discuss resilience and mental health training.

Archdiocese of Liverpool Secondary School Improvement Trust Events, External Courses and Grant Opportunities Fully Funded NPQ Programmes: Updated Information* As you are aware the DfE have confirmed that scholarship funding will continue for the National Professional Qualifications for school leadership (NPQs). All Trust schools can access this funding and we urge colleagues to take full advantage of this opportunity.

This year we are hoping to run our own Catholic NPQH group. We can only run this with a group of at least 15 colleagues. If we do not reach this figure, then the normal NPQH programme will run as before. If you feel ready to apply, please register as below and contact v.borlase@rcaolp.co.uk so that we can monitor uptake with Best Practice Network.

NW Maths Hub 3 and AMSP launch event with Bobby Seagull This will take place on Wednesday 17th July 11.45- 4pm at the University of Liverpool.

Please book on this form Bobby Seagull on The Life-Changing Magic of Numbers Bobby Seagull is a secondary school maths teacher, a doctoral student at the University of Cambridge researching maths anxiety and phobia, quiz enthusiast and a long-suffering West Ham fan. Previously he Newsletter—Edition 1 Winter 2015 worked in finance, both as a trader at the investment bank Lehman Brothers and an accountant at PwC. Bobby writes for the Financial Times, is author of The Life-Changing Magic of Numbers and ambassador for National Numeracy.

This free afternoon event is for all teachers that are interested in developing their knowledge and delivery of KS2/3 transition, GCSE, A level, Further or Core Maths. The Advanced Maths Support Programme and Maths Hubs have so much PD on offer it can be overwhelming to work out what would be best for you and your department. This engaging event is your opportunity to make the most of what is out there.

Alison is also an Assistant Director with the NCETM. Natalie Vernon on Memory and Cognitive Load Natalie is a National Coordinator for MEI PD. Prior to joining MEI she taught in secondary schools for 11 years including being a KS5 lead and Head of Department. She is particularly interested in how technology and cognitive learning theory can improve understanding and engagement in the maths classroom.
