FFT Statistical Subject Moderation FFT provide a new 'Statisical subject moderation' report for all schools which analyses your predictions, factoring in FFT estimates and school subject performance in previous Newsletter—Edition 1 Winter 2015 years. It will highlight any unusual subject level patterns which might merit further attention.

Colleagues who have accessed this have commented how easy this is to use, with results being received within a week.

AMSP: Summary of online courses on offer during Summer Term 2020 AMSP has produced a range of online resources, as well as online courses – these can all be found at www.amsp.org.uk The AMSP website also outlines the full range of online professional development and ‘on-demand’ professional development available to all teachers. During this time of lockdown, schools (this includes those not on the Priority Lists) need to register to AMSP https://amsp.org.uk/register Anthony Edkins (Ofsted Inspector and AMSP Maths) has been involved in writing teaching and learning materials aimed for GCSE Level 4+ students – these are generally enrichment materials. These can be found at https://amsp.org.uk/resource/year-10-support These have been written to address the gaps there will be in current year 10 pupils’ knowledge and skills, because of a lengthy school closure.

AMSP offers sustained courses for A Level Maths, Further Maths, Statistics and Mechanics. Some of our maths teachers have already participated in these courses. Lockdown Offer to schools from Antony Edkins Antony Edkins (Ofsted Inspector and AMSP Maths) is proposing to offer his time free of charge during the Summer term 2020 to headteachers, senior and middle leaders in schools. Schools would agree a ‘remote working’ rate, which would be paid to Antony, who will then send the lump sum to the Salford Royal Hospital Volunteer Service and the Woodstreet Mission.

Over the next three months, Antony is offering: •

Documentation review, revision and/or drafting and rewriting e.g. SEF, policies and guidance materials.

•

Online coaching and mentoring for senior leaders and subject leaders 

this could include strategies for having difficult conversations with colleague/s

Strengthening of subject curriculum plans so that the order in which activities are planned and delivered, over time and within lessons, shows careful thought about sequencing.

Helping senior leaders review and revise their strategy for planning and implementing the most effective actions in pupils’ attitudes and behaviours, which would not be different to the in depth approach and scrutiny of subject curriculum areas I have offered previously.

•

Helping school leaders and subject leaders plan and prepare the order of activities that are needed to help reclaim pupils when they return to school. This includes professional development on ‘catch up’ pedagogy and the sequencing of ‘catch up’ tasks.

This is not an exhaustive list. There may be other areas that schools might wish to consider.

PPE : Face Masks Following the East Cluster meeting Andrew Dawson has shared information from a company that is currently supplying face masks (CCDynamic.)

The two suppliers they deal with both have CE approval and are medical grade rather than civilian grade, which is important as, with civilian masks, maximum recommended use time is 4 hours or under.

These medical masks are individually wrapped in cellophane to prevent contamination before use.

CC Dynamics can supply the masks at £0.68 per mask if purchased in quantities of 1,000. The company adds that ‘There are cheaper masks out there, however, the quality varies dramatically, it is important that the product we supply is not only priced fairly, it also gives the necessary protection.

We are not looking to supply these masks as an opportunistic profit-making venture, the amount of admin and time to acquire these products is considerable and we want to provide a service at low cost to local business and schools, if required. I am sincerely hoping that the masks will not become a way of life for years to come.’

Free Face Masks for Key Workers AMS UK are offering schools an opportunity to distribute free masks to key workers as part of their face masks for heroes campaign. It is being run in partnership with euro quality foundation.

Key workers are risking their lives for us and to say thank you to them AMS UK want to give a gift to their children to keep safe, which is a face mask. Many countries where schools have opened have made face masks compulsory. These masks are made of fabric and are washable and reusable. Like many other things they are made in China but imported by a UK reseller. They fit early years to secondary age children.

To obtain free face masks all you have to do is to fill in the following details and reply to the company via email. Masks will posted to schools directly. There is limited stock, so this will be shipped on a first come, first served basis.

OCR Discussion: Vocational Qualification grades 20th May 2020 OCR are seeking colleagues to join them for a virtual (conference call) discussion regarding the options for calculating Vocational Qualification grades this summer 2.00pm-3.00pm on Wednesday 20th May. OCR are proposing to run a single meeting which covers arrangements both for our OCR Nationals (for 1416 year olds) and for our Cambridge Technicals (for 16-19 year olds). Although they will be concentrating on the arrangements for producing assessment grades and subsequently calculating final grades, they would also like to hear your views on any requirements for an autumn assessment opportunity. They will also be interested to hear of anything you would like to raise.

Invitation from OCR: External and Internal Assessment OCR are looking at how they can ensure Cambridge Nationals qualifications meet centres’ and students’ needs. There is a requirement for them to address the balance of external and internal assessment (as part of future reform) and they also want to ensure the qualifications are up to date and reflective of customer needs.

In order to do this effectively and continue to offer students the best qualifications, OCR would like to know if you or your heads of department would be keen to be part of a panel to drive these developments?

PROGRAMME FOR SCHOOLS 2020 Welcome to the 2020Newsletter—Edition programme for schools created 2015 especially for learning at home, bringing 1 Winter authors straight from their house to yours from Monday 18 – Friday 22 May. Each day, from 8am onwards, you can see two primary (years 3-6) authors introduced by Konnie Huq and two secondary (years 7-10) authors introduced by Jenny Valentine. These events will be available to watch again on Hay Player and you can access teaching materials to support learning before, during and after the festival.
