Welcome to Huddersfield New College! My name is Zoe, and I am the Head Student (Pastoral) here at HNC. A few years ago I was in your position and getting ready to think about my next steps. I would encourage you to ask as many questions as possible, as this will really give you a feel for if the College is right for you. I chose HNC because College life isn’t just about your courses and there are lots of amazing opportunities

many incredible experiences at HNC, including taking part in a youth in democracy event where I was given the chance to really have my opinions heard about the current political climate. I was given the opportunity to visit Durham University as part of the Aspire programme, where we had a tour of the University and of St Chad’s College. My advice for you as you move into Year 11 is to really focus on your GCSEs, so that you achieve the grades that will open doors in the future, including the doors here at HNC.

to get involved at HNC. You can become a sports leader, learn to write for TV or the cinema, or practise yoga. Personally, I decided to sign up for an extra qualification in Events Management, my gold Duke of Edinburgh award, and of course I applied successfully to become a Head Student! I wish you good luck with your GCSEs.

Huddersfield New College offers you an enriched learning experience. Being a Head Student is just one way to enrich your time here at HNC. See page 30 to discover more about our outstanding enrichment opportunities.

Our focus is helping students prepare for progression to university, apprenticeships or employment. At College they will develop lifelong time management, independent learning and resilience skills that will prepare them for the challenges life will bring, and ensure that their progression from College is a successful one. We understand the importance of parents/carers as partners in this, and we will keep you involved in your son or daughter’s education to ensure that they can and do realise their potential. Ways we will keep you involved include:

College - Invitations to Parents’ Evenings at relevant points in the year. You will be able to meet subject teachers and discuss your son/daughter's progress, and how this can be supported in the home - Invitations to bespoke evening events, such as the Oxbridge evening, the Sports Personality of the Year event, the Fashion Show and the Performing Arts showcases - The option to sign up to the termly enewsletter which provides an insight into student life at the College - Access to the Progress Tutor team. The Progress Tutor team provides a key link between College and home.
