The whole school attendance for this week is 85.7%, with Maple Class achieving 85.7%.

26 pupils took part in the Wyre and Fylde Schools’ Dance Competition at the Tower Ballroom. This was an amazing experience and they brilliant! Thank you to Miss Gemma for choreographing the routine and working so hard with them.

The pupils taking part in the Big Sing had a workshop this week to prepare for the event in March. They all joined in with great enthusiasm and particularly like the songs with actions! We are really looking forward to this event!

Brian House fund-raising – this week the disco and selling our Valentine hearts raised £662.55! Thank you so much for your support. We have now surpassed our total of £850!

Parking for drop-off and collection

Clubs

Please can you make sure you are not parking across driveways or in designated no-parking zones when you drop-off or pick-up. We have recently had complaints from people living around school and on Cartgate about inconsiderate parking.

Please see the attached timetable for next half-term’s clubs. All teachers will be running an intervention club to boost pupils who are working just below the expected standard for their year group. If your child is invited to attend, please ensure they take part each week. The class teachers will send out more details.

Arrival at school

Swimming

Please try to ensure that pupils who walk to school on their own do not arrive before 8:50am. We have noticed a few pupils arriving from 8:30am and at this time, they will not be supervised by adults.

Book Fair We have a Scholastic Book Fair in school after half-term from Wednesday 28th February to Tuesday 5th March. This will be open for parents to visit each night after school. During the week we will be focusing on reading activities through school and we are inviting any pupils who want to, to dress as a book character on Friday 1st March.

There will be prizes for the best costumes although it is not compulsory – non-uniform can be worn instead.

If any parents would like to come and read a story to a group of children, please get in touch.

Forest Only Beech Class and Reception pupils will have forest sessions next half-term.

The current swimming group has been split in half so that we can ensure a higher quality lesson for the pupils attending. We are currently targeting the pupils in Years 3,4 and 5 who are not yet swimming 25m.

I have messaged parents directly on Class Dojo about the group for next term. Swimming will start on Wednesday 21st February.

Walk to school As the weather improves, we would love to have more pupils joining us for walk to school on Wednesday and Friday mornings. This is not only a healthy start to the day but it also helps to alleviate some of the traffic congestion at drop-off. Meet at Preesall park at 8:25am.

Mothering Sunday Sunday 10th March 10:30am We will be taking part in this service at St. Oswald’s Church. If your child/children would like to be involved, please email Mrs Gladwin.

Mrs Raby Mrs Raby has finished as our school cook today as she wants to spend more time with her youngest daughter. We have loved having her working in school and she will be missed! We would like to say a huge thank you to her for her fabulous dinners.

We have a temporary cook after the holidays before our new school cook takes up her role.

TALKING TO YOUR CHILD ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH Are you a parent or carer who wants to talk to your child about mental health?

This Children’s Mental Health Week we want all children and young people, whoever they are, and wherever they are in the world, to be able to say – and believe - “My Voice Matters”.

We visited primary and secondary schools to ask students what they wanted from the week – to help shape the activities we create for schools, the messaging we give to teachers, the tips we give to other children, and the advice we give to parents, carers and families.

Here’s what children and young people told us they need from you: We don’t need to have ‘one-off conversations about our mental health’ – sometimes a chat on a journey or at bedtime is enough.

I need to know it’s okay to talk to you about any and all of my feelings. Please hear what I have to say, without interrupting me.

Please listen to me carefully and acknowledge how I am feeling – it might seem silly to you but what I am going through is important to me.

Playing with pets can make me feel better.

Same with playing football, basketball or whatever type of sport I am into.

Don’t compare my experiences to your own when you were a child.

Sometimes I just need you to listen and hear what I’m saying – I don’t always need answers (or lectures) Please don’t worry about trying to fix

If you are open with me about your feelings, this can help me to be more open about mine.

Sometimes I don’t want to talk. Please trust that I will come to you (or another grown-up or someone my own age) when I’m ready. Sometimes it’s easier for me to talk to someone nearer my own age – my siblings, cousins, friends, younger teachers at school - because they ‘get it’.

Sometimes a hug is all it takes to make me feel supported.
