How we learn RE at Earith Primary School. Intent, Implementation and Impact
Intent:
To learn about religion to enhance their understanding of the world around them. To acquire knowledge about Christianity and other principal religions represented in Great Britain and showing respect for different faiths and cultures. Understand that religious beliefs shape life and behaviour. Develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues.
Implementation:
Using the Cambridgeshire RE scheme, the subject lead maps out the ‘yearly overviews’ of key knowledge they want children to learn. This then information teachers’ Medium Term Plans. Knowledge is carefully planned to ensure key knowledge is built upon from previous years. Teachers begin a unit of work with a ‘Big Question’ as a line of enquiry. In line with requirements from the Cambridgeshire Agreed Syllabus, the following religions have been selected for study: Christianity
Judaism
Islam
Hinduism
Buddhism
Sikhism
KS1 – Christianity is studied (and at least one other religion in some depth) KS2 – Christianity is studied (and at least two other religions in some depth) At Earith Primary School, we value the religious background of all members of the school community and hope that this will encourage individuals to share their own experiences with others. All religions and their communities are treated with respect and sensitivity, and we value the links made between home, school and faith communities. We are extremely lucky that Christian Organisation ‘Open the Book’ visits our school weekly, to teach children (through assemblies and role play) important elements of Christianity.
