Transition and Pastoral Support

We consistently welcome cohorts of students into Year 7 from a wide range of different primary schools across West Cumbria.

We maintain a strong partnership with our local primary schools, allowing us to develop a personalised understanding of each student who joins us.

Our pastoral team works closely with our students and their families. We encourage and build strong relationships, prioritising effective communication.

99% of Year 7 parents said that the transition events were effective in supporting their child’s transition into Cockermouth School from their primary school.

1 in 4 students joining Year 7 in 2025 were from out of catchment schools.

When surveyed in October, 99% of Year 7 parents said that their child already felt safe in school, additionally 98% shared that their child was happy at school.

We hold exceptionally high expectations for behaviour. Our students tell us that these standards are consistently upheld throughout the school.

Almost 50% of our students choose to continue into Sixth Form, while those who leave at the end of Year 11, consistently secure places in high quality apprenticeships and college courses.
