English:

Our quality text will be ‘The Egyptian Cinderella’. We will focus on writing setting descriptions, continuing to build upon our knowledge of expanded noun phrases, prepositions and fronted adverbials. We will also be writing our own narrative, using 'The Egyptian Cinderella' as inspiration. We will focus on writing and punctuating dialogue, varying the placement of the reporting clause.

Year 4

Half-term 2

Maths: This half term we will learn about…

Multiplication and Division

History: We will study the Ancient Egyptians and how artefacts and discoveries have led to developing our understanding of this period in history. We will learn about life in Ancient Egypt, mummification and the worship of gods and goddesses.

- Multiples of 3, 6, 9, 7, 11, 12

- Multiplying and dividing by 1 and 0

- Factor pairs

- Formal written methods of multiplication and division

We will continue to revise times tables through our TT Rockstar’s sessions.

Science:

We will identify how sounds are made and understand that vibrations travel through a medium to the ear. We will be investigating patterns between volumes of sounds and the vibrations that produced it. We will also consider how sound can change with distance from the source.

PE: The children will continue to take part in gymnastics with Miss Rimmer and invasion games with their class teacher.

Music:

This term the key element of music is tempo, we will move on from glockenspiels to keyboards. We will learn were the notes are on the stave, recap key information and begin to learn simple melodies. We will listen to many pieces of music for example Moonlight Sonata from Beethoven and Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin.

Year 4 Half-term 2

RE:

During lessons we will explore why some people think that life is a journey and identify some of the key milestones on this journey. We will explore what happens in Christian, Jewish and Hindu ceremonies and why they are important.

Design Technology: We will be investigating and modelling framed structures to improve their stability then apply this research to design and create a stable, decorated pavilion.

Spanish: Las verduras / The vegetables:

Geography: We will use maps to locate Egypt linked to our theme about Ancient Egypt.

PSHE: Linked to our school values, we will continue to explore a range of feelings and emotions, strategies to manage them positively and understand how and where to seek help if needed. We will also engage in Anti-bullying Week activities.

• Name, recognise and recall from memory up to 10 vegetables in Spanish, and attempt to spell some of these nouns with their plural article/determiner.

• Learn the high frequency verb quisiera from the verb querer (to want in Spanish).
