English: During this half term, we will use our quality text ‘Esio Trot’ to inspire our writing to create character descriptions. We will be learning how to write a nonchronological report and develop our non-fiction writing skills. Our grammar focus throughout these units will include further consolidation of expanded noun phrases and deepening our understanding of prepositional phrases and conjunctions. The children will continue to practise and write using cursive script and focus on the presentation of their work.

Year 3 Half-term:Autumn 2

Science: In our Science lessons , we will be looking at health and movement. We will explore how humans and some other animals have skeletons and muscles to help their bodies move and investigate how our bones grow with age.

Whole class reading: In our reading lessons, we will be continuing to read a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry texts linked to a variety of themes. We will be focusing on retrieval and inference skills and building our knowledge of vocabulary. We will also be focusing on making accurate predictions.

Maths: In Maths this half term, we will be working on Addition & Subtraction we will work up from adding and subtracting 1, 10 and 100 up to 3-digit addition and subtraction questions. These mental methods will then be followed by more formal written methods. This will include columnar methods which will start without crossing the tens boundary and then it will move on to carrying across columns. We will also look at partitioning and number lines which include counting on and counting back.

PE: The children will continue to take part in gymnastics with Miss Rimmer and invasion games with their class teacher.

Music: In our Music lessons with Mr. Pritchard, we are learning how to play the song ‘Little Donkey’ on the keyboard. Our focus this half term is on pitch and structure. We will also be learning songs for our Christmas assembly in church.

Spanish: In Spanish we will:

• Name and recognise up to 10 colours in Spanish.

• Count from 1-10 in Spanish.

• Name and recognise up to 10 animals in Spanish.

• Attempt to spell some of these animal nouns with their correct indefinite article.

• Pretend that we are a particular animal using the 1st person singular of the verb ser (soy = I am).

History: In History we will continue our learning about the Romans and the Roman Empire, thinking about their way of life and the impact they have had on Britain. We will learn about Boudica, Hadrian's Wall and what legacy did they leave us with.

RE: In R.E we will be studying what Christians, Muslims and Hindus believe about God. We will learn about the similarities and differences between ideas about God.

Computing: This term we will continue to ensure that we work safely online. We will be programming using 'Scratch' and making sure that we can sequence commands to create a simple game.

PSHE: In P.S.H.E, will are focusing on Health, particularly brushing our teeth and medicines.

Art: In our Art lessons, we will be studying the formal elements of art including shading and toning. We will work towards creating our own botanical inspired artwork.
