Maths: In Maths, we're embarking on an exciting journey with our unit, 'Decimals and Percentages.' Building upon the foundation laid in Year 4, students will refine their skills by ordering, comparing, and rounding decimals. We'll then transition into exploring percentages, understanding them as both fractions and decimals. We will then delve into perimeter and area, covering rectangles, rectilinear shapes, polygons, and compound shapes. Our term will culminate with a focus on Statistics, where students will master drawing and reading line graphs, along with interpreting tables and timetables.

Year 5 – Spring 2 ‘A Greek Odyssey!’

Science: In Spring 2, we'll kick off the term by delving deeper into our topic, 'Properties of Materials.' Our focus will be on investigating reversible and irreversible changes, paving the way for an exciting experiment on thermal insulators. Get ready for hands-on exploration and scientific inquiry! Later in the term, the children will explore the differences in the life cycles of a mammal, an amphibian, an insect and a bird, before exploring the human life cycle and begin to describe the life process of reproduction!.

English: Over the next six weeks, the children will attempt to write their own Greek Myth, before composing a biography about the life and work of David Attenborough! There will be a particular focus in our SPAG lessons on how/when to use a comma when writing fronted adverbials, relative clauses and using commas correctly in a list. The children will continue to read a variety of different Greek Myths in their Whole Class Reading lessons, whilst enjoying listening to a range of class texts too.

History: Once again the children will delve into the realms of ‘Ancient Greece,’ where they will begin to investigate what impact Ancient Greeks have had on society today, while exploring how significant their legacy is. They will explore Greek architecture, art & theatre, before exploring where the Olympics originated from. The children will research ‘Archimedes’ and how his work/research has influenced life as we know it.
