English:
Our focus will be Liverpool Writers. We will be reading the text ‘The Wonder Brothers’ by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We will also write biographies as well as creating poetry based on the work of Roger McGough. Our reading focus will be linked to our topic about Liverpool and its architectural structures.

Year 4 Summer Half-term 1: ‘Imagine’
Maths: This half term we will learn about… Decimals
- Tenths and hundredths on a place value grid and a number line
- Dividing numbers by 10
- Hundredths as fractions and decimals
- Partitioning and comparing decimals
History: We will discover how Liverpool became the city of today. We will uncover preserved Stone Age footprints in Merseyside and understand how the history and culture has developed. We will learn about the ‘Three Graces’, slavery, and look at how Liverpool suffered during WW2. We will also study the impact of music, the Beatles and Mersey Beat.

Science: States of Matter. We will learn to compare and group materials together depending on whether they are solids, liquids or gases. We will learn about the properties of each state of matter and understand how materials change state when they are heated or cooled. We will also study the roles of evaporation and condensation in the water cycle.
Geography:
This area of the curriculum will be covered in Summer 2.
PE:
We will be learning about Fundamental Movement Skills and continue to develop our skills during OAA activities.
Music:
Classes will continue to learn either a brass or woodwind instrument or work with Mr Pritchard to develop their musical knowledge and skills.
Art & Design and Design Technology: Drawing – Power Prints
We will learn how to create 3D effects using shading and create images using a variety of tools and techniques. We will create a finished drawing based on our original compositions, including detail such as contrast and pattern.
Design Technology – This area of the curriculum will be covered in Summer 2.

RE: What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today?
We will be investigating key aspects of Hindu beliefs and worship. We will be focussing on British Hindus and the diversity in ancient and modern Hindu traditions.

PSHE: The Working World
Computing: This area of the curriculum is covered in Autumn 1, Spring 1 & 2 and Summer 2.
We will be identifying ways in which we can help those who look after us and discuss the positive impact of our actions. We will be exploring ways of contributing positively towards our home, school and wider community. We will also look at the skills we might need in future job roles.
Spanish: A fecha / The date
Children will:
• Remember, recall and spell the 7 days of the week and the 12 months of the year.
• Remember, recall and spell numbers 1-31.
• Use their knowledge of the days of the week, months of the year and numbers 1-31 in order to say the date and to say when their birthday is.
Maths: This half term we will learn about:

- Perimeters of rectangles, rectilinear shapes and polygons Fractions

We will continue to revise previous times tables through our TT Rockstars sessions.
Geography:
We will be learning about South America, identifying the physical geography and features of Brazil. We will recognise and describe the cultural attractions there, trade links and fair trade, as well as comparing Brazil with a region in the UK.
Year 4 Spring Half-term 2: ‘Going, Going, Gone!’
English: We will have a focus on our new text Wonka. Alongside reading this book we will be focusing on perfect present tense, determiners as well as recapping over our previous grammar foci. The children will have the opportunity to write for a range of different audiences & for different purposes. We are incredibly excited to see the children's creativity!

Science: Living Things and Their Habitats
We will continue to study animals in their habitats. We will focus on both man-made and natural changes to their environments and how this can pose dangers to living things. We will also be looking at different endangered animals.
PE: We will be focusing on a variety of invasion games. Looking at the different skills such as throwing and catching and how to move correctly. We will be taking part in a variety of games and thinking about how to play fairly.
Music: Wider opportunities (instrument focus). Birch will continue to focus on clarinets with Mrs McCardle. Willow and Pine will continue to focus on drums and guitars with Mr Pritchard. Maple will continue to focus on brass with Mrs Hughes.
Art & Design and Design Technology: Art and Design: This area of the curriculum will be covered in Spring 2. Design Technology – Fastenings. The children will be creating a felt book cover during this half term. They will learn about a variety of fastenings, design their cover then create using measuring, sewing and gluing techniques.

RE: We will be focusing on Easter in both a religious and sociological perspective. We will be recapping the children's previous knowledge and building upon this.
Year 4 Spring Half-term 2: ‘Going, Going, Gone!’
Computing: We will be continuing to develop the children's knowledge of scratch (our coding program) as well as learning all about HTML. How to find this and replacing images.
PSHE: Relationships: We will be identifying the different types of relationships we can have and describe how these can change as we grow. We will also identify how relationships can be healthy or unhealthy and explain how our families can support us.
Spanish: Las verduras / The vegetables:
• Name, recognise and recall from memory up to 10 vegetables in Spanish.
• Attempt to spell some of these nouns with their plural article/determiner.
• Learn and use the high frequency verb "quisiera" from the verb “querer” in Spanish.
