Spring 1 Y3 Homework Menu

Year 3 Half-term: Spring 1 Theme: ‘Journeys’ In Year 3, we believe that homework should consolidate the learning that has taken place in school and engage the children to share this new knowledge with their families. As part of this, we have created a menu (on the reverse of this page) of activities for children to choose from linked to the Year 3 curriculum in our school.

Please choose and complete at least 6 activities from the grid (on the reverse of this page) to complete cover the course of the half-term. Homework can be recorded in the homework book or brought into school in any other form (photos, posters etc) where appropriate. We teach the children to take pride and responsibility for their own work, therefore we expect each homework task to be completed with care and to the best of their ability.

As part of our weekly homework offer in Year 3: 1. Please continue to aim to read with your child at least 3 times a week.

2. We would also like your child to continue to practise their times tables at home 3. To support with our reading and writing work in school, we will now start to send home each week a spelling rule and linked words so you are aware of what is being covered as part of our work in school. This rule will be taught and practised throughout the following week in school and we wanted to send this home so, where possible, children can practise this at home. Children will have the chance to learn, practise and apply this rule in class through a range of activities and quizzes as part of our RWI spelling programme.

Diary Writing This half term we are looking at writing a diary entry. Write your own diary entry about a fun or special day you have had.

Remember to include your feelings and emotions and think about trying to include fronted adverbials and coordinating conjunctions.

Boggle How many words can you find in the word grid below? What is the longest word you can find? Use the words you have found in a sentence.

Map Skills Use a map or Google Maps to find five cities close to Southport. Can you name any cities that you have visited in the UK and can you describe some of the things you saw there?

Written Addition and Subtraction Using the digits below, how many written addition and subtraction calculations can you make?

Magnets Can you find different magnets around your home? Draw pictures of the magnets you have found and write down where in your home you found them.

Take a journey!

Take a trip to the park. What can you see? Describe and sketch some of the things you find there.

Toy investigation Linked to our work in DT and pneumatic toys, can you find different ways that toys move? Record your findings to share with the class.

Library Visit Why not visit the local library and loan a selection of books? Share what you have read and your book reviews with your class!

The Green Ship Linked to our text ‘The Green Ship’ by Quentin Blake, have a go at designing your own ship. Who would you travel with? What would you include on your ship? Where would your ship take you?
