CEIAG at Chorlton High School

‘Career’ describes our journey through life, learning and work. We need to actively develop our careers to make the best of them and move on to successful, creative and happy futures. Our careers programme at Chorlton High School aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make informed and aspirational decisions about their future pathways in an ever -changing world.

• Working lunch parties

• Gateways HE programme

• Careers advisor priority to SEND/PP students

• Bespoke events, workshops and speakers, targeted based on the careers audit and local LMI

Year 7 – Dare to Dream

• A careers audit captures student interests and aspirations

• Introduction to a wide variety of career pathways to spark curiosity about the future, including STEM and creative careers

Year 8 – Exploring my future

• Curriculum discussions around where subjects lead to

• Employer encounters to gain experience from a range of industries

• Development of skills and personal character

• Embedded careers programme mapped against the Gatsby benchmarks and CDI Framework

• Year group assemblies focused on different areas of careers e.g. LMI, HE

• Careers in the curriculum

• In school careers advisor

• Celebration of National Careers Week & National Apprenticeship Week

• Careers events and speakers e.g. STEM week, Creative careers week

• Post 16 transition strategy

• GCSE pathways support

• CEIAG newsletter

• Signposting and access to online platforms for research and information e.g. Kudos

• Year 10 work experience

• Careers library

• Targeted post-16 transition support including for SEND/PP students. For example visits to college, application support, course advice and workshops

• Bespoke sessions for HAP students

• Apprenticeship support for students interested in this pathway

• Additional support as required for students at risk of NEET

Year 9 – Focus on my future

• Pathways including FE and HE are explored, and students begin to refine their career aspirations

• There is a clear focus on LMI, especially jobs of the future, reflected in employer encounters and assemblies

• Students make their Pathways choices, supported by interviews

Year 10 – Planning for my future

• Students start to think more about Post 16 options and are offered experiences with providers
