Beelong Festival

We have never needed each other more than now.

During these unprecedented times, we will continue to provide opportunities to support, revitalise, and strengthen our incredible community.

The Beelong Festival will reach out, across digital and social platforms, inviting you all to enjoy a rich variety of shared and joyful experiences.

Our extensive programme has been expertly curated in collaboration with local and national organisations, award winning authors, influencers, alumni, creative staff and, of course, our amazing students.

Every day we will showcase workshops, events and activities designed to engage, excite and empower every member of our community. Your participation, at any time, during this week will encourage us all to celebrate our togetherness, with optimism and in solidarity.

Join us to prove that we have more in common than divides us.

Free Afternoon ‘Bee’ - 10am An Afternoon “Bee” is a Chorlton High version of an Afternoon Tea: cakes and sandwiches with flavours from around the world. Tomorrow is the Great Get Together, and we are going to celebrate being together, apart. The first 30 people to like this post get a free Afternoon Tea delivery tomorrow to enjoy whilst watching our videos!

Lempen Theatre Company: Cardboard Carnival - Avaiable all week This amazing production is available for our Chorlton High family to watch all week. It is an animal extravaganza, set to Saint-Saens’ Carnival of the Animals. Having been described as “an inspiration and a delight for everyone from 4 to 104,” it is an ideal activity for any families home-schooling young children. The show is 45 minutes long, and there is an accompanying YouTube workshop that teaches you how to make the cardboard puppets!

Chorlton Scavenger Hunt - 11am There are 20 Beelong Festival Bees around Chorlton!

Download the clues from our website and solve them to discover where they are. Find 10 Bees and take a picture of yourself with each one!

Make the pictures into a collage and send it to beelongfestival@chorltonhigh.manchester.sch.uk to be in with a chance of winning our prize draw.

Thriving during lockdown, Podcast - 9am Listen to local presenter and coach Kate Cocker talk about everyday positive, communication and positive self-talk.

Community Quilt Challenge - 10am Join us in making a community quilt! Order your pack to be delivered to you, and sew your square.

We will display the finished quilt in Chorlton Library to remind ourselves that our community came together at the most difficult time.

I know where I come from - 6pm An intergenerational play in collaboration with Contact Theatre’s Young Company that explores the experiences of the Windrush generation through first-hand accounts.
