Reading Newsletter – Summer 1

‘If a child can’t read, they can’t get on in life.

Welcome to the fifth edition of our Chapelford Reading Newsletter and the first of our summer newsletters. We have had another very busy term, filled with lots of exciting books shared in the classroom and across the curriculum. Ourreadingambassadorshavespokentoeachyeargroupaboutwhatbookstheyhave enjoyed in their classes this term and here’s what they had to say…
“The Hungry Caterpillar ate so much food he had tummy ache! Then he made a cocoon, and a butterfly comes out!”
“Nibbles was a very funny book. I liked when he escaped from the book and went on a journey. I liked it even more when he wrote a postcard from London and nibbled on big Ben!”
In this funny book, a sandwich goes on a journey and becomes disgusting! The squirrel, frog and crow couldn’t be tempted But the badger was not put off!”
“Journey made me feel like I was in a magical place! A whole new world! It was so different to other books I’ve read. Even though it was a picture book with no words, it really inspired me to write my own story.”
“There’s a Rang-Tan in my bedroom made me think about the poor orangutans losing their homes in the rainforest because of humans. I enjoyed using this to write my own report to raise awareness of deforestation.”

”Paperbag Prince made us think about our environment and how we can have a negative impact on our world. We delved into landfills and tried to persuade the government to use alternative options.”
“Explorer is an exciting adventure story about 4 children, whose plane crashes, leaving them stranded in the Amazon Rainforest. I enjoyed considering the different characters’ personalities and how they impacted upon the story.”
