Dear Mr Lenox I am writing on behalf of the Prime Minister to thank you for your correspondence of 12 November regarding COP 26, in which you enclose letters from pupils at The Cathedral Catholic Primary School. The Prime Minister appreciates your efforts to deliver the letters by means of a very environmentally friendly cargo bike. It was a pleasure to read their persuasive letters. They certainly make a strong case for pursuing the common goals agreed in Glasgow. During the conference, the goal of restricting the rise in temperatures to 1.5C was kept alive, by turning the dial down to around 2C. Almost 200 countries have put their name to the Glasgow Climate Pact, setting a clear roadmap to 1.5C. For the first time ever a UN climate change conference has delivered a mandate to cut the use of coal for power generation. The Paris Rulebook was also finalised – which means the Paris Agreement can now be delivered in full – agreeing how every country will measure and report on emissions to hold them to account to their targets. In addition, 90% of the world’s economy is now covered by net zero targets and 80% of global emissions are now covered by 2030 targets. We will keep pushing in the year ahead to strengthen the promises made in Glasgow and make sure they are delivered. Thank you, once again, for taking the time to write. Yours sincerely

MANDY GODRIDGE

Councillor Jack Lenox
