Newsletter – 10th May 2019

The children returned to school with confidence after their Easter holidays and soon settled back into their daily routine. They were welcomed back to school with a surprise left by the garden fairies and they have been gardening ever since! We have enjoyed a lovely trip to the Plant Place Garden to explore all the different kinds of plants that grow and each planted a sunflower seed. We were also very lucky to have a visit by some special spring lambs, Robbie and Rosie. This week we welcomed our new families, in our induction meeting, that will join Carleton Green in September. Thank you to the Duckling parents that attended the meeting all about The Foundation Stage Profile. All of the information from this meeting is on the Ducklings’ class page of the school website. Mrs Catterall will be starting jury service for two weeks on Monday 13th May. Mrs Lees will be the class teacher and is who you need to speak to if you have any questions over the next couple of weeks.

STARS OF THE WEEK Nicola Bromell for working so hard to improve her reading, writing and mathematics and Charlie Latus for never giving up and trying so hard with all of his learning. Frankie Whyte for being such an enthusiastic learner and Zaki Djerbi for trying hard in all that he does. STAR MATHEMATICIANS Cruz Hobbs and Frankie Whyte STAR WRITERS Evie Elliott and Emily Kenyon Our Learning Our ‘What’s in the Garden?’ topic is going down very well with the children. They are all familiar with the different parts of a plant and what they are needed for. They have enjoyed planting different seeds and investigating what it is that the seeds and plants need in order to help them grow and stay healthy. They have been using lots of different materials and techniques to create their own flowers through collage and printing. We have 5 special visitors in our classroom, caterpillars, which we are watching closely to see how they grow and change. This week we enjoyed finding out about plants that grow in our gardens by reading the story Oliver’s Vegetables. We helped to make (and eat!) some yummy vegetable soup. It was lovely to see the children trying new foods and being brave to try vegetables that they thought they wouldn’t like! Well done to Lola Webb for commenting on the blog and we’re thrilled to hear that you loved the soup!
