Events at The College It’s been a busy time at The Sixth Form College, Birkenhead recently. This term further enrichment and volunteering opportunities became available with: Age UK Wirral, AIW (Advocacy in Wirral), Caudwell Children, Homestart Charity shop, NCS, Options, RNIB, RNLI, Royal Navy Reserves, Sea Cadets, VCA, Wirral Council. Other options included: British Sign Language for beginners, Creative Writing, Debating, Food Safety in Catering Certificate, working in Primary Schools and working with the elderly or disabled. The importance of volunteering or engaging in additional interests not only gives you the opportunity to develop new skills but can be of the utmost importance when applying for university or for apprenticeships. This can be useful at interview with employers and admission tutors as you can discuss your experiences and give examples of the new skills you may have developed. Tutors at the college are also supporting opportunities around University Summer Schools particularly at Lancaster University in areas around Biomedicine, Business, Law and Computer Science. Other Summer School options are available with Loughborough University as is the possibility to spend time at some of America’s top universities (MIT, Harvard, Yale) via the Sutton Trust.

Having the correct information on your CV can result in you obtaining that all important interview. It is used to explain to employers and recruiters your potential and experience, so a good CV looks forwards as well as accounts for what you did in the past. It is sometimes referred to as a resume, a summary outlining your career and educational history. Here is a step by step guide covering the most important sections of a CV. Your Personal Details should include your name, address and contact details. It's up to you whether you include your age, marital status and nationality. Recruiters should be able to make a decision about your skills and abilities without this information. If you’re adding your email address to your contact details make sure that it sounds professional and creates the right impression.
