 A blue whale can eat up to 457,000 calories in one mouthful of krill. A human eats just 2,000-2,500 calories in a day.  It is the biggest animal in the world.  The blue whale can weigh up to 180 tonnes.

Hope’s Story

 Hope was found in 1891 stranded on a beach near Wexford in Ireland.  The people who found her didn’t know what she was.  Her skeleton was sold to the Natural History Museum

A symbol of hope  Blue whales almost became extinct because of whaling.  They became a protected species in 1966.  Now the numbers of blue whales are slowly increasing.  Hope’s skeleton now hangs in the middle of the museum and reminds us that we have the power to protect our beautiful animals.
