On Tuesday the 4th of June, Bridge School was very privileged as famous author Anne Booth came to open our library. This was the first library Anne Booth had ever opened. The author (who has written books such as ‘The girl with the white dog’ and ‘Across the divide’) also gave every year group the chance to ask her questions which everyone enjoyed.

Editor’s New Prime Minister

On Friday 7th June Theresa May decided that she didn’t want to be Prime Minister (the person who runs the country) anymore. It may have been because some of her minsters didn’t support her anymore. Another reason is that Theresa May tried to make the UK leave the EU with a Brexit deal because she believes that without a deal the UK would find trade with other countries very difficult. When Bridge Termly went to press In the first week over 200 books were taken there were two people left who wanted to beout of the library; with over 1800 more books come prime minister. They are called Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt. to be taken out of the library and for people to enjoy.

Some children even had the opportunity to get the book signed by Grant. He was also kind enough to allow the children to ask questions.

Interestingly, Grant has a competition on his website that all the children can enter!

year 6 performed an ‘absolutely fantastic’ production of the Lion King that both the audience and the actors will never forget. Everybody (including the teachers) thoroughly enjoyed practising and participating in putting the show together.

everybody trying their hardest to make the best production Bridge has ever seen; don’t just take my word for it, here are some comments Mr. Tibbles received after Wednesday and Thursday: ‘It was a feast for eyes and ears with the lighting, costumes props and sound, but most importantly with the fantastic children and the staff who enabled them to give it them all’ ‘I’ve had three children come through this school, watched fourteen year 6 productions and this was, by far the best I’ve ever seen’ ‘It was amazing. I had tears in my eyes more than once! Some outstanding individual talents, but more importantly so encouraging to see the whole year group having the opportunity to take part. Huge, huge congratulations to all the children and to all the staff involved.’

‘What a spectacle! Can’t single anyone out as the entire cast was superb. Thank you for all the hard work and foresight in staging The Lion King. It could for a week. We wouldn’t get tired of seeing it.’

Sporting Success

Sunday 14th July was a very eventful day with both the Wimbledon final in which Novak Djokovic was trying to beat Roger Federer to win Wimbledon to win it for the 7th time and the ICC Cricket World Cup final in which England were trying to be world champions for the first time; they were up against New Zealand.

The third set Djokovic won again in the tiebreak 7-4 after it finished six games all. The fourth set Federer won six games to four.

The last set was the most entertaining. It went to six games all but the match carried on as normal because in the last set you need to win the game by two until it gets to 12 games all, which it did. So it went to another tie-break which Djokovic won 7-3 and was crowned Wimbledon champion.

Another event that happened was the ICC Cricket World Cup final where England faced New Zealand. In 50 overs (300 balls) New Zealand managed to get 241 runs. In 50 overs England also managed to get 241 runs. As it was a final, someone had to win and someone had to lose. So they had a super over (6 balls) to see who would win.

England batted first and got 15 runs. New Zealand batted next and also got 15 runs however England won the world cup because during the day New Zealand got 17 boundaries (where you hit the ball over or hit the foam around the edge of the pitch) and England got 22. Some people said this was the best match in cricket history.

Wimbledon has always been entertaining but the closest, and longest, final on Sunday was definitely the best tennis the country has

The Big On Wednesday 19th June Lucy and Cecile made their way to the Headteacher’s room to interview Mr. Tibbles and asked him questions about him and our school. They found out some interesting answers. Below is a list of the questions they asked and his answers:

I’m most proud of the children and their lovely attitude to learning, not just maths and English but also other subjects. I also like the staff as they’re fun and interesting to talk to and they make the school brilliant.

How has your time been here so far?

What did you do before you came head teacher at our school?

I’m really enjoying my time here so far and the school is absolutely brilliant including the children and the staff. I really like how the children enjoy learning and have a lovely attitude.

I was also a headteacher at different other schools such as Phoenix and Rolvenden.

Strangely most of my schools I taught at wore a blue uniform but that’s not the reason why I choose this school.

What are you most proud of about this

Interview Are you going to make any changes to our school in the future?

Do you have any more exciting plans for the future?

Over the summer we are hoping to change the quad into a year 1 outdoor area. We also have lots of amazing teachers and teaching assistants in the school and I am hoping they can use their expertise across the school a little more.

Yes, we’re hoping to build a music room so the children can play music in there. They can do choir and orchestra along with other musical clubs or activities in there.

Why did you cancel the Easter egg hunt and staff pantomime?

We had a talk about the Easter egg hunt with the other staff and thought that because we’re a healthy school we cancelled it. Plus we thought that all the children would already have lots of Easter eggs already they wouldn’t need any more. Instead of the staff pantomime we did that funny video of the staff so children who weren’t there could see it but also parents.

Sport As Sport is such an important part of our school, and with Sports Day in term 6, as well as other significant sporting events, we sent Henry and Hannah to interview our two sporting leaders and find out all about them,

Mr. Perfect What sports did you most enjoy in your old school and why?

I really enjoyed team games and I also enjoyed being part of the school football team.

Sports days were always good fun.

What types of major sporting events have you been to?

I played football for Dover athletic and we played against another team from Belgium. I used to do cross country running for Kent.

When was your first competition and if you do remember what was it like?

I remember my first ever football match it was very nerve racking. I remember scoring a goal by accident and it bounced off my knee. At the beginning of my cross country running I would get butterflies in my stomach.

Do you do a lot of sports out of school and if you do what are they?

Yes I do. I play football 3 times a week, I play badminton once a week, I play golf a few times a month and I like kayaking.

What’s your favourite thing about sports day?

What sport did you most enjoy in your old I think it’s the excitement of it all its so exciting school and why? and the atmosphere is electric. Its seeing eveI loved all sports but I most enjoyed athletics ryone try their best and everyone is included. and netball. I was very lucky that we had a very experienced PE apartment.

What types of major sporting events have you been to?

I’ve been to the Olympics to watch volleyball.

I’ve been to Crystal Palace and the world championships to watch athletics. I have been to Twickenham to watch 6 nations rugby (Scotland V England ) and I have been to Wimbledon.

When was your first competition and if you remember what was it like?

It would have been the district sports sprinting.

I was very nervous but very excited at the same time.

Do you do lot of sports outside of school and if you do what are they?

I do running for a club twice a week, I do yoga once a week, I try to play tennis on Wednesdays and I like cycling.

What is your favourite sport in school?

Do you think our school is healthy enough?

I’ve got so many favourites but my top three are Netball, Rounders and Athletics. It is great I think it is healthy enough but I still we need to to see the children all working together and remind people. I think everyone is very good at drinking water. competing in school and outside school.

This sports day we were surprised to find that Rio came first, congratulations! Sydney came second; well done Sydney! Tokyo came fourth; better luck next time Tokyo and keep it up Rio! Last year’s winners were winners for 7 years, London, but Rio was better than all and broke their winning streak.
