Planning tools and software types 1. Identify two formal planning tools. GANTT Charts and Critical Paths are examples of formal planning tools.

2. Identify two components of a Gantt chart. The date (Along the top) and blocks to represent the time each task is allocated are examples of GANTT Chart components.

3. In a Gantt chart, milestones can be set. What tasks in the project life cycle could be identified as a milestone? The start/end date of the phases, meetings and presentations, and the client’s approvals could all be set as milestones.

4. How are concurrent tasks represented in a PERT chart? Concurrent tasks in a PERT Chart are represented by arrows that show what tasks come after on-another.

5. Explain what is meant by the critical path. The longest path and the shortest time a project can be completed in.

6. What is meant by the term ‘static product’? A static product is a “Fixed product” which says stationary and is incapable of change.

7. What are the benefits of using a visualisation diagram? The benefits of using a visualisation diagram is that : information can be quickly understood; patterns can be spotted easily; and it can be easily understood by non-specialists, meaning most can understand this chart type.

8. What are the rules for creating a flow chart? The rules for flowcharts are that : they must begin and end with “Start” and “Finish”; tasks must bel listed in rectangular boxes; and diamonds must be used for decisions with 2 outcomes.
