Welcome to Year Three! I hope that you all had a relaxing summer and I look forward to working with you to ensure that your child has a happy and successful year.
Curriculum In English we will begin by looking at the piece of text ‘The Giraffe, the Pelly and Me!’ by Roald Dahl. This short story links closely with our theme, and allows us to focus on the characters, setting, retelling parts of the story and analysing direct speech between characters. In Maths we are now using Maths – No Problem! to help us gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. We will begin the year with a particular focus on number and exploring different elements of this, including partitioning into hundreds tens and ones and comparing the value of numbers to 1000 Our main theme for this half term is ‘We’re Havin’ a Giraffe’ as we are the Giraffes’ class! We will link this to our science topic, animals including humans, where we will learn about muscles, bones and their functions. In this theme we will also study Roald Dahl and his childhood, focusing particularly on his location and comparing this to Skelmersdale. Our topic in RE is Called by God, we will be able to talk about in detail the Bible stories you have discussed and be able to connect their feelings and actions to their values and commitments. Towards the end of the half term we will celebrate the Harvest Festival by saying thank you to God for all of the crops and food. PE This year we continue to use the Schools Sports Partnership to deliver one lesson of PE, this day remains as Wednesday. Another lesson of PE will be taught on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school each week and that any jewellery is removed or covered on Mondays and Wednesdays.
Support We are very lucky this year to have Mrs Webb as a full time support in class. As well as this we have Mr Kimpton who is an Associate Teacher and will be with us for the first half of the school year.
Reading As your child moves into the juniors reading continues to be an important element of the curriculum. Your child has now been allocated a book band; they will be bringing these books home as well as reading in school. It is crucial that this is returned to school, alongside your child’s reading record, to ensure that your child’s reading in school can be recorded and communicated with yourself. If you have any concerns about your child, please make an appointment to discuss this as soon as possible. Thank you for your support
