Monday - Explore front cover without title and find clues, questions and reminders from the picture. (copy of front cover below) Read title and discuss, Predict what the story could be about. Record.

Wednesday - Read to page ending “a mournful buzzard mewed.” How has the writer used description and sounds to create the atmosphere?

Use the tables to help you collect information.

Thursday - Discuss what you have heard, go for a walk in a wood (with an adult) and collect things you have heard about in the story so far. A big well done to those of your who have logged on and had a go at the tasks set!  Science I have a research question for you this week: What makes up a salad and why should we be eating salad regularly?

You could use the internet to help or maybe you could ask the person/people you live with what they think? You can present your findings in any way you like. Some ideas could be: PowerPoint, draw a healthy salad bowl including labels, write/type up your findings, you could dress as a scientist and present your knowledge to your family or even video yourself. It’s totally up to you!

Reading The Jumblies

And when the Sieve turned round and round, And every one cried, ‘You’ll all be drowned!’

They called aloud, ‘Our Sieve ain’t big, But we don’t care a button! we don’t care a fig!

In a Sieve we’ll go to sea!’

Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live; Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

They sailed away in a Sieve, they did, In a Sieve they sailed so fast, With only a beautiful pea-green veil Tied with a riband by way of a sail, To a small tobacco-pipe mast; And every one said, who saw them go, ‘O won’t they be soon upset, you know!

For the sky is dark, and the voyage is long, And happen what may, it’s extremely wrong In a Sieve to sail so fast!’

Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live; Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

Though the sky be dark, and the voyage be long, Yet we never can think we were rash or wrong, While round in our Sieve we spin!’

Challenge

Hello Y2, I hope you all had a lovely Easter and enjoyed the warm weather. An update from me, is that my tiny garden is now covered in white and grey paint because I have painted everything in sight. Mr Stubbs was worrying that I was even going to paint the grass!

As you all know, I gave up chocolate, sweets and crisps for Lent and I have been eating Easter Eggs for breakfast ever since. I am going to challenge myself from now on to do the Joe Wicks workout every morning to help me to feel ready for the day. Have any of you been working out? What have you been doing to stay active?

To keep myself busy at night time, I have also taught myself how to knit and I ordered some wool to try and make a scarf. I know it’s not the weather for a scarf but I’m very slow so by the time the scarf is finished it will probably be winter! Haha! Have you gained any new skills while being at home?

Remember we are updating the homework section of the school website weekly and we would love to see what you have been up to via the school email address. Mrs Melling had a great idea to send certificates to the children who are completing the homework tasks.
