Monday 1. Re-read the story and find the key events.

2. 2. Put these on a timeline or map.

3. Read and discuss toolkit.

4. Discuss the sequence and possible time adverbials.

5. Add to timeline/map and evaluate effectiveness in ordering story.

Tuesday 1. Revisit Lila’s feelings at different points in the story.

2. 2. Complete synonym wheel, discussing meanings. I have completed ‘sad’ as an example.

3. Role play her feeling worried and look at how we could show the reader she was worried. Complete show and tell activity, these are Lila’s thoughts.

Wednesday 1. Look at the opened page and discuss what you can see.

2. Annotate with nouns

3. What other words could we use for hot? Develop synonyms for hot.

Thursday 1. Develop two expanded noun phrases. See examples below.

2. Find examples of the power of three (explained below) in the book.

3. Compose some power of 3 sentences and evaluate.

Friday 1. Develop exclamatory sentences – examples below.

2. Use these sentences to create opening for story.

Art Challenge Colour Can you recreate African art?

A starting point might be visiting the Twinkl website and searching for ‘African Art’.

There are various PowerPoints and examples to study.
