Reception Home Learning Pack (2)

The pack includes some of the home learning that has been sent through Tapestry, our online learning journey.

David’s Gorilla Quest

Before you begin, download the Cbeebies Storytime App. From the library (click 'Add Story'), select David's Gorilla Quest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GO-jsL8MNK0 (There is a Youtube version of this available if you can't access the app) Read the story, and use your phonic knowledge to write words or sentences to answer these questions...

What special items did you pack for your adventure?

What animals did you spot apart from the gorillas?

How do you spot where a gorilla has been?

Challenges Can you make your own binoculars or compass using junk/craft materials?

Can you make your own map of your garden?

Can you go in your garden and spot some wildlife?

Can you use lego or other building materials to make your own jungle?

Jungle Adventure

This is something we did in school that the children really enjoyed.

We used our imagination to go on a jungle adventure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuWr5TCbumI (Search BBC Relaxing Jungle Sounds) We watched this clip on the big board and discussed what we thought me might see, hear, touch, taste or smell as we walked, flew or swam through the jungle!

The children were also having a go at writing some of their ideas down as they were 'travelling'.

It works better if you can get it on your TV, but an I-Pad or computer would be fine too.

2D Shapes

Who wants to go on a shape hunt?

Watch the following clip to learn about 2D shapes... https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zhnvcdm Challenge Can you use the examples from the video and find your own shapes around your home or garden, or when you are out and about doing your daily exercise?

Can you use different coloured pieces of scrap paper, and make your own shape collage like the one in the picture?

Do you have any play dough cutters to help you make some shapes?

Audio Story

The link will take you to an audio version of the Lion and Mouse.

Listen to the story; Can you talk about some of things you heard?

Who are the characters?

What happened at the beginning, middle and end of the story?

What is the setting of the story?

If children are struggling to follow the story all in one go, listen in small bursts of 1 or 2 minutes, discuss it then move onto the next part.

Can you create a story map? Or write some sentences?

Tiny Happy People is a BBC website that gives examples of activities you can do at home, developing communication in particular.

Phonics Bloom is a website that has games starting from Phase 1 for Nursery, and Phase 2 and 3 for Reception.

Some of the games require a subscription, but there are some useful free games on there too!
