Home learning Year 1 - 4th May

Home Learning Pack for Year 1 Week 5 Hi , I have been trying to put together a wide range of learning opportunities based on books that you can just dip into or work through in your own time. Please don’t feel that you need to complete everything, these are intended to be guides for Home Learning. Stay health, stay happy and try to introduce some of the activities into your daily routine.

Mrs Melling NB: All Targets are linked to Y1 Spring and Summer term expectations and can be adapted for all children to work at their own pace. The activities may also be used with younger or older children, perhaps to work together.

Computers Coding Club Activity

Target  Coding – Learn how to complete a computer program

Target Matched to Y1 learning objectives for BBC Bitesize (linked with the Summer Term White Rose Maths we have been Children to work through the units at their covering over the last few weeks) own pace.

Remember these are home learning units to support children and help to establish learning routines at home.

Summer term work Use this if you prefer a book to work from and have access to a printer) English Theme : Using animation to support writing, speaking and listening.

Little Bambino is excited when his father and grandfather decide to teach him their family vocation and take him to work with them. But soon his excitement turns into confusion and conflict.

 

‘La Luna’ Day 1: enjoy watching the animation together and talk about the story. Who are the characters?

What are they doing? How did they do it? Why are they in the boat?

Day 2: Watch and pause the story at different points to notice changes in the scenes. Can we describe the sea? Can we describe the changes when the moon appears? (you could write some of your describing words to use later to describe the scene.)

Day 3: Draw a simple story map of what happened in the animation Who was in the boat?

Where did they go?

What did they hear?

See?

What did they do?

What happened next?

Day 4/5: Use the story map to write your story, remember to include lots of describing words.

Daily Phonics Work on phonics skills using games and reading

You might like to create the story yourselves using toys people, make a boat using Lego or junk materials. Draw or make the scene.

Have fun with the story.

Daily Reading Reading buddy or Books from home There are many reading books online for each age group if Reading Buddy is not available.

Targets Try to read every day, even if it’s only a couple of pages.

Activities Try to do some reading each day Set time aside each day to read and enjoy the reading games on Reading Buddy. Why not create your own reading den at home, make it cosy with toys and cushions and read for pleasure.

Targets  What is growing around us?  Identify and name a variety of common 

wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees.

Identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including trees.

Ideas On you daily walk or in your garden can you identify:  Roots: The roots hold the tree in the ground so that the wind cannot blow over it. A tree gets water through its roots.  Bark: The bark is the skin of a tree and covers the whole of the trunk.  Trunk: The trunk is the strongest part of the tree and holds up the branches. The water from the roots goes up the trunk to the leaves.  Branches: A part of a tree that grows out of its trunk with leaves, flowers, or fruit growing on it. A very small branch is called a twig Leaves: Leaves are green and make the food for the tree and also evaporate water which helps to keep the surface of the leaf cool.

VE day Celebrations: Victory in Europe Day/ VE Day took place on May 8th 1945. It was a public holiday and day of celebration to mark the defeat of Germany by the Allied forces in World War 2.

VE Day marked the formal conclusion of the war with Germany and brought to an end six years of suffering, courage and endurance across the world.


