Home Learning Pack for Year 1 Week 3 Hope you are all safe and well and enjoying your home learning activities.

I am also doing lots of home learning, making plans for when we return to school.

Although the book is designed for Y2 it can be used by Y1 with support from a parent it offers lots of guidance and can be used over a number of weeks. (take your time don’t rush through it.)

Practise the skills using resources from around the house (pasta, buttons, toys, coins etc..)

Extend the work by increasing the numbers and create your own problems.

Additional idea: Create a Tuck Shop and use your maths ideas to create problems.

Buy one get one free (doubles) make sets of sweets/crisps 5p 10p bags (groups) and biscuits/fruit/crisp for half (find half make half eg use raisins or crisps and split a packet into half to share)

The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EuTlQCGxE5Y or read the book if you have a copy, it is widely available on the internet in a number of formats.

Ideas for the week: Draw and label Peter Rabbit. Talk about the character of Peter describe him using interesting words.

Write a letter to the Farmer. What do you think Peter should say? What would Peter’s mother say?

Can you draw paint the setting of the story?

Label the picture and try to include lots of details.

Create a story map to retell the story of Peter.

Draw your map or make a map from Lego! Retell the story to your family. Why not film your story for friends and family.

Write your story following the ideas of your story map.

Think about beginning middle and ending!

Other ideas: Use a rabbit toy (any animal will do or make a puppet Peter Rabbit) and create your own adventure in the garden. Take photographs of the rabbit hiding in the garden or around your house.

Perhaps the photographs can inspire you to write your own story.

Make Rabbit ears, design and make a new outfit for Peter to replace his blue jacket.

Make carrot themed food, carrot cake, carrot soup (if ingredients are available!)

Daily Phonics Work on phonics skills using games and reading

Daily Reading Reading buddy or Books from home There are many reading books online for each age group if Reading Buddy is not available.

Targets Try to read every day even if it’s only a couple of pages

Activities Try to do some phonics/spelling each day.

Choose from a selection of phonic games from phonics play. Based on tricky words Watch video clips Mr Thorne does phonics Mr T’s Phonics You Tube (This includes internet safety message) Continue to work through flashcards, digraphs and trigraphs. Check list in reading Record book.

Why not create your own reading den at home, make it cosy with toys and cushions and read for pleasure.
