Governance Leaders (in partnership with the CST) The programme aims to build the capacity of governance leaders and their boards. There is therefore a careful balance of personal and board development. Our ‘joined-up leadership’ philosophy means that we include the wider board and executive leaders at key moments during the programme, and sustain this after the end of the programme through access to a powerful network. Curriculum overview: The curriculum will be delivered through eight core modules which will be complemented by masterclasses and bespoke elements of support. The core topics to be covered in the eight modules are: 1. Setting direction, managing change and working collaboratively 2. Ethical leadership, culture and values 3. Managing compliance, risk and reputation 4. Ensuring data-driven accountability and educational improvement 5. Financial performance and accountability 6. Getting structures and processes right 7. Building an effective team 8. Board evaluation and effectiveness Core programme overview: The programme will run for 12 months Prior to residential participants will undertake a self and board assessment against the 16 competencies in the Competency Framework for Governance and the Nolan Principles of public life. The head/CEO and at least two other governors/ trustees will also be asked to undertake the board assessment to triangulate results. Based on the feedback from the assessment support will be given to develop an action plan for improving the effectiveness of the board facilitated by a dedicated governance expert. Eight modules designed to build the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed for effective governance as outlined in the Competency Framework for Governance. These will be delivered through – A two-day residential training event Six self-directed on-line learning modules Core online modules will be supported by specific optional face-to-face masterclasses All participants will have a dedicated experienced governance mentor who will continue to review the progress of the action plan across the 12 months. Access to the network via our online learning space, allowing participants to discuss best practice and share resources.
