YEAR11LEAVERSDO Wel l Done t o our y ear 11st udent s The Y11s and their parents returned for a presentation evening where they received their Functional Skills certificates and Mrs Dunbavin spoke about each of them, warmly recognising their successes at Hope High School.

YEAR11 EXAM RESULTS

This year, we have also introduced Functional Skills in maths and English at Level 1 (and Level 2 for those we feel are able); 78% of our Y11s have passed English and 75% have passed Maths. At time of writing, we are waiting for the results of the latest series, as we aim for a 100% pass rate in each Functional Skills subject .

It was a delight for all to share in, including pupils, parents and staff.

We await their GCSE exam results in August and eagerly look forward to hearing about their next chapters in life following Hope High School.

This year Hope High's year 11 students undergone their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver award, all pupils accomplished their set awards with 100% pass rate. The Duke of Edinburgh is a mixture of challenges that have been completed throughout the year. All pupils excelled themselves and were credited on their positive attitude and manor in which they conducted themselves.

DUKEOF EDINBURGH AWARDS

Throughout the whole expedition they displayed confidence, independence and sensible judgment in all aspects by showing how well they could work together and support each other when the challenge became physically and mentally challenging, needing to pull together to sort out real life situations that occurred. They were fully respectful of all adults directly involved and the public they met on route, taking everything in their stride.

The following is from the two instructors that observed Hope High's D.of.E students; "Resilience was displayed that will help these students mature into young men in their chosen further education and careers, together they are a huge credit to the school."

This Ter m's Subj ect Focus Mat hs KS3 During the summer term, year 7 and 8 have been working extremely hard on mastering Geometry. We started looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes and recognising these in everyday objects.

KS4 It was sad to see the year 11?s leave but we are incredibly optimistic about their futures. A huge congratulations to the most successful year 11 cohort ever to leave Hope High School.

Year 9?s have been working hard towards completing their Maths AQA Entry Level Certificate qualification. Mr Tracey is confident that the majority will achieve the highest grade of an Entry Level 3.

The year 10?s have been working hard preparing for the AQA Maths Functional Skills Level 1 exam. A huge congratulations to Philip Taylor and Patrick Kay who have successfully passed the exam. Now they must keep up the hard work and get ready for their Level 2 exam in November 2018.

al t er nat iv epr ov ision success Here at Hope High, we promote alternative provisions for our pupils.

We have various places that our pupils attend such as Cast NW, Educ8 group, TLC, Skem Creative Hub and Creativity Works Preston.

Pupils who attend will achieve a qualification by the time they leave in year 11. This is a massive achievement which should be celebrated.

This year we are celebrating our year 11?s successes who attended an alternative provision. They are:Liam Jones ? attended Educ8 group and studied sport. BTEC level one Award in Sport and Active Leisure.

BTEC level one Diploma in sport and active leisure.

James Eastwood ? attended TLC (construction). Level 1 Diploma skills for Employment in the Construction Industries Jack Clements ? attended Cast NW. Open Award level 1 for further Learning and Employment Ellis Doyle ? attended Cast NW. Open Award level 1 certificate in Land Based studies Josh Brown ? attended Creativity Works Preston. NCFE Award in Employability skills.

All of these pupils should be proud of their achievements because the staff here at Hope are incredibly proud!!

Hope High has a wide variety of supportive and teaching staff and they have a wide range of resources.

School finishes for the end of I think that Hope High is a wonderful school as it has its own ter m and star t of the Chr istm as strategies for each pupil and we have a system called ?walk holidays. and talk?which works almost all the time, basically what walk and talk is if you are struggling in class or in a bit of bother then a Pastoral support staff will come and try to resolve the problem, if they cannot resolve the problem then they would say ?let?s go for a walk and talk.? And all?s you do is walk around the school for 3 minutes and then they will try to find out what is bothering you, after they have found that out then they will calm you down and send you back to class while they try and resolve the issue.

Each class suits what is best for each child, they also have their own ?chill out zone?with some furniture in and can be used for many different reasons e.g. you are struggling and Pastoral will come and sit you down on the couch and talk to you about the problem. The other way the chill out zone can be used when you are feeling a bit annoyed or angry then you would take some time out and return to your lesson in 5-10 minutes.

The Willow (Nurture) room.

At the front of school, we have the Willow room which is based on our rewards system ?Respect Points.?The respect points are about you using the British values for example, you do not swear you say something else you will be awarded respect points for not using inappropriate language and when you have 100 respect points you get a ?voucher ?which is a reward of your choice like going to the shop or having 1 game of pool or 15 minutes on the computer.

I think Hope High have wonderful strategies and wonderful, caring and supporting staff.
