Headteacher – Mr IJ McDonald

Well, what a year we have had here at Bishop Martin! Just thinking back to September makes me realise how amazing, but also exhausting it’s been! So much has happened for us to celebrate, cherish and remember and there is also so much to look forward to! Academic standards across the school continue to be incredibly high, not just compared to schools in Skelmersdale but across the whole of Lancashire. This was highlighted in our recent KS2 results, which again have placed us well above the national average (and given us our BEST EVER KS2 Attainment in Maths (95%), Writing (82%) and our Combined Reading, Writing and Maths score (73%)). It is truly a testament to the dedicated team I am blessed to lead here that, despite the relentless national focus on testing in English and Maths we have continued to develop our inspiring, thematic curriculum. This was highlighted during our successful Spring Term Ofsted inspection. Inspectors praised the curriculum for the rich breadth and range of experiences it provides for the children. I hope the ‘Down Memory Lane’ assemblies many of you were able to attend in the Spring Term helped to showcase the amazing curriculum that your children enjoy here. We continue to achieve well in sports and extra-curricular activities. We won medals this year at events as wide ranging as the Robin Park Athletics Event (where a Bishop Martin pupil now holds the town record for the 70m Sprint!) to the School Swimming Gala. I’d like to express a HUGE thank you to the staff who willingly give up their own time to prepare for and then take children to these events. Also to the parents who come out to support the children in all weathers! We have said some sad farewells already this year and make some more today. Mrs Gray, Miss Harvey and Miss Malins have all left us this year and we remember and miss them! Mr Arnold (Site Supervisor), Mrs Palin (Y5 Teacher), Miss Douglas (Y4), Mrs Niven (Y6 TA) and Mrs Hampson (Y4 TA) are all moving on to new challenges and we wish them every success in what they do. We look forward to welcoming our new staff arrivals in September. Mrs Warrington (Deputy Head), Miss Davies (Reception Teacher), Miss Rankin (Y4 Teacher), Miss Casey (Y5 Teacher) and Miss Mason (Extended Services and Pastoral Support) are all high quality appointments and will bring a huge amount of skill and commitment to the school. Finally we wish to thank you Parents, Carers, Governors and Friends for entrusting your children into our care and your ongoing support for all that we do. Let’s hope we have a warm, dry, sunny and safe 6 weeks in which you and your family enjoy a happy holiday together. We look forward to seeing you all safe and sound with all pupils in our smart new uniform in September.
