Year 5 Summer 2 Information

Dear Parents/Carers, We hope that you have had a restful break and we are delighted that the children have returned to school brimming with energy and enthusiam for our last half term in year 5! We’re sure you’ll agree that time has flown! What a year we’ve had with so many fabulous experiences and fun times. As we enter the last few weeks we would like to thank you again for all of your support. We have a busy half term ahead with lots of interesting lessons and activities planned: Curriculum Religion Freedom and Responsibility This half term, children will be learning about how we must be responsible for our actions and show responsibility for protecting the freedom of others. We will be looking at the 10 Commandments – why Moses and the people of Israel were given the 10 Commandments and what they mean. Stewardship We will be learning more about CAFOD and their role and responsibilities within the community and the world. Hinduism As part of our ‘World Religions’ curriculum, this term Year 5 will be learning about the Hindu religion. We are planning a visit to a local Hindu temple on Wednesday 20 th June (see note on Schools Buddy).
English: Non-fiction: Reports Children will be looking at the threat of deforestation on wildlife, in particular, tigers. They will use their research and discussion to produce a report on the detrimental effect of deforestation on tigers’ habitats. Poems on a theme: Continuing on the theme of tigers, the children will be looking at a range of tiger-based poetry with a view to writing their own poems, calling upon powerful imagery and personification. Shakespeare: Our final unit this term will be studying the works of Shakespeare. The children will read and recreate their own versions of Shakespeare’s plays and perform these using iMovie. Maths:
