St. John’S nurSery Summer 2 11th June 2018 Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back after the half term break, we hope you all enjoyed the couple of weeks! Our topic this half term is ‘Countries around the World.’ So if you have any books or things relating to this topic please can you send them into Nursery and as ever, we will look after them! Below are the things that we will be looking at this half term, in each of our eight areas of learning.

PhySical DeveloPment -Experiments with different ways of moving -Eats a healthy range of foods & understands need for variety in food -Observes the effects of activity on their bodies -Shows some understanding that good practices with regard to exercise, eating, sleeping & hygiene can contribute to good health
mathematical DeveloPment -Shows an interest in number problems -Uses shapes appropriately for tasks -Records, using marks they can interpret & explain -Finds total by adding 2 groups together
exPreSSive artS & DeSign -Beginning to move rhythmically -Continue to explore what happens when they mix colours -Makes up rhythms -Uses various construction materials
communication & language - Listens & responds to ideas by others in conversation or discussion -Uses talk to organise, sequence & clarify thinking, ideas feelings & events
literacy DeveloPment -Links sounds to letters, naming & sounding the letters of the alphabet -Recognise some sounds in the phase 2 list -Begin to blend/segment sounds together -Hears & says initial sounds in words -Uses some clearly identifiable letters for meaning
unDerStanDing the WorlD -Talks about how things happen and how things work -Knows that information can be retrieved from computers -Knows how to operate simple equipment
