Friday 25th May Wednesday Word – FRIENDSHIP Twitter - @saintoswalds THIS WEEK – During our Come and See sessions we started our new topic on Friends. The children have talked about who their friends are and what they enjoy doing with their friends. Within Literacy, we looked at non-fiction texts using an interactive map from Chester Zoo, finding out about the animals that we saw at the zoo and have been writing questions related to our trip to the zoo. In Maths, we completed our Post learning task on doubling and halving and our pre learning task on missing number addition. We had our visit to Chester Zoo this week. The children had a fantastic time and behaved exceptionally well, making us all very proud. Thank you to all who offered to help and we are sorry that we couldn’t take you all with us. During our phonics sessions we have focussed on Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – phase 4 phonics where they have been reading and writing ccvc and cvcc words. We have recapped sounds from phase 3. Introduced to the words some and come Mrs Riding’s and Mrs Ryan’s group – phase 4 phonics where they have been reading and writing ccvc and cvcc words and the words – there and out. Miss Woolley’s group – recapping igh and have been introduced to ar. They have been learning are and all. NEXT TERM– During our Come and See sessions we will be learning about what Jesus liked to do with his friends. Within Literacy, we will be looking at the story of On the Sand to start off our new topic Down at the beach. We will be writing about the events in the story. In Maths, we will be starting our new topic on counting on to find the missing number in an addition number sentence. During the afternoon, we will be conducting our End of year CEM assessments. We will be working with the children one to one and completing phonics, reading and maths tasks to assess the progress of children throughout the year. These assessments will be carried out over a number of weeks. During our phonics sessions we will be focussing on: Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – continuing with phase 4 and will be introducing there and were Mrs Riding’s and Mrs Ryan’s group - will be continuing with phase 4 and the words – were and one. Miss Woolley’s group – will recap ar and be introduced to or and will be recapping all phase 3 words learned so far and looking at the words you. WEEKLY CHALLENGE – Thank you for all the doubling and halving homework. Over the half term holiday, please enjoy some family time. If the children wish to they can have a go at writing about some of the activities they get up to. SEE SAW – Thank you to parents who have already made comments on their child’s profiles.
