Friday 18th May Wednesday Word – PEACE Twitter - @saintoswalds THIS WEEK – During our Come and See sessions we have been learning about Hinduism. The children have found out about Diwali and have listened to the Rama and Sita story. Within Literacy, we read the book Doing the Animal Bop and the children wrote sentences about the story including and in their sentences. In Maths, we have introduced halving and sharing numbers and solving problems related to this. During the afternoon, our focus has been Hinduism where the children have been making their own Rangoli patterns and Diva lamps. During our phonics sessions we have focussed on Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – have been introduced phase 4 phonics where they have been reading and writing ccvc and cvcc words. They have recapped sounds from phase 3. Introduced to the words so, do and have Mrs Riding’s and Mrs Ryan’s group – have been introduced to phase 4 phonics where they have been reading and writing ccvc and cvcc words and the words – one and were. Miss Woolley’s group – have been introduced to igh and have recapped phase 3 words. NEXT WEEK– During our Come and See sessions we will be starting our new topic Friends. Within Literacy, we will be looking at non-fiction texts using an interactive map from Chester zoo, finding out about the animals that we will see when we are there and asking questions about what we want to find out when we are there. In Maths, we will be completing our Post learning and pre learning tasks. During the afternoon, we will be talking about rules and expectations for our school trip and writing a recount of our day. During our phonics sessions we will be focussing on: Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – continuing with phase 4 and will be introducing some and come Mrs Riding’s and Mrs Ryan’s group - will be continuing with phase 4 and the words – there and out. Miss Woolley’s group – will recap igh and be introduced to ar and will be recapping all phase 3 words learned so far and looking at the words are and all. WEEKLY CHALLENGE – Thank you for all the information you sent in about Diwali. This week we are asking the children to complete the doubling and halving working sheet. EMPTY BOXES AND POTS – We are running low on our found materials. Please could you send in any empty boxes, yoghurt pots, bottle tops, egg boxes etc so that the children can continue to make their models. SEE SAW – Thank you to parents who have already made comments on their child’s profiles. Please continue to add observations of your children that you see happening at home. Tag your message onto a recent observation sent to you by the teacher. SPONSORED EVENT – The children did a fantastic job completing their running challenge. Please start to send any sponsor money that you have collected into school as soon as possible. The deadline is Friday 25th May. CREATIVE CLUB – This week was the last session of creative club for class 1K and Eloise and Emillie. I hope they have enjoyed it. There will be no session next week and the children will need to be picked up from school at the normal time of 3.30pm. Thank you.
