OUR NEW MISSION STATEMENT ‘Growing and Learning together in the footsteps of Jesus.’

Thank you to all of you who filled in one of our questionnaires a few months ago.

We have worked with the children very closely to finalise our new mission statement and we are very pleased with it. We feel like it really sums up what we aim to do at St. John’s. Our mission statement is also underpinned by our 6 core values: LOVE JOY RESPECT RESILIENCE KINDNESS GRATITUDE

Gratitude... or a sense of appreciation, Love of God and all creation, Respect in words and actions too, Joy which shines through all we do, Kindness shown in little ways, Resilience for the tougher days, On these we build our community.

The children have been thinking about what each value means for us at St. John’s and are thinking of ways they can live the vision.

We are very grateful to Mr Rogerson for painting the new mural in our entrance foyer. It is a beautiful reminder to us every day of our shared mission. The school council have also been working with Sam Morris (music teacher) to write our new school song that celebrates our vision and values and is very uplifting. We look forward to sharing it with you at the next mass.

SHARE THE JOURNEY Pope Francis has launched ‘Share the Journey’, a new global campaign to stand up for the rights of refugees and migrants. In support of the campaign, we’re aiming to add some miles to the 24,901 miles needed (which is the distance around the whole world!) If you would like to know more about the campaign please visit https://cafod.org.uk/Campaign/Share-the-Journey It's an act of solidarity to Share the Journey with our global neighbours fleeing their homes. Every step you take, together with others from across the country, will send a message to world leaders that they must step up, too. The children in Year 5 have been doing a lot of work around the plight of refugees and migrants and are sharing their ideas and thoughts with the KS2 children in assembly this week. Our walk will take place after the half term holidays and we’d love for you to join us and add to the miles!

GHYLL HEAD

The Year 4 children had a superb time at Ghyll Head. They took part in canoeing, ghyll scrambling, mountain climbing and zip wire activities. The children showed a lot determination and resilience when they came across activities they hadn’t done before but, above all, they had a great time with their friends. We were very proud of them!

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION

Congratulations to our second group of children who made their First Holy Communions this last weekend. They were very respectful and the service was beautiful. Thank you to all of those children from other classes that came to sing and really helped to make the day special. The crowning of Our Lady is on the 13th May at 12pm in church. All are welcome.

REFLECTION

Jesus, friend and brother, You know what it is like to be hungry and thirsty.

You know what it feels like to be a stranger who is made unwelcome.

You know the suffering of all who have lost everything.

We pray that by welcoming refugees we may show love for our neighbour and be closer to you.

Amen.
