Year 5 Spring 2 Information
26/02/2018
Dear Parents/Carers, Welcome back after the half term holiday, we hope you had a restful break. As we start the Lentern half term leading to Easter, we hope you find the following information useful: Homework: This term, we have decided to trial something different to the usual weekly homework. We are hoping that this will give children and families more flexibility regarding when homework is handed in and also give children the opportunity to enjoy learning through the wider curriculum. Our focus this half term is ‘Religion’.
A letter was sent home this week explaining this half term’s tasks, do get in touch if you have any questions.

As we offer such a wide range of sporting opportunities, not only throughout the curriculum but after school and during lunchtimes, it is strongly advised that children bring their PE kit (including trainers) to school every day.
Curriculum Religion: This half term is particularly special as we prepare for Easter. The children will begin their preparation with memories and linking this to Jesus’ words at the last supper “Do this in memory of me”. They will then explore the impact of Jesus’ sacrifice for us and how Lent is a time for sacrifice and remembrance. We will also be looking at the Hindu religion as part of our ‘World Religions’ work; we will be organising a class trip to the local Hindu temple and will be in touch with dates as soon as we can. Literacy: The children will be travelling to far off lands of mystery and wonder in their writing this half term as we begin a topic on “far away fiction”. During this topic the chidlren will explore the power of desciptive imagery and our senses to create exciting stories set in far away lands.
