How to support your child’s learning at home

Home learning

Year 6 children have revision books which forms the basis of most of their home learning.

They need to take responsibility for checking and marking their work and we shall carry out spot checks.

Make sure reading for at least 10 minutes a day takes place every day and is recorded in the Reading Record.

Thursday 16th May – Reasoning (Paper 3)

Make sure you know your targets and are constantly striving to achieve them.

Curriculum Overview Year 6 Summer Term 1

Miss Payne, Mrs Holden, Mr Heseldon, Mrs Malik

English: As we are now in the run up to SATs, we are now focusing specifically on grammar, spelling and punctuation in addition to reading revision. Children will be plugging gaps and areas of weakness to maximise success. We will be applying skills from grammar into short writing tasks where we will also exploit opportunities to improve handwriting!

Creative Curriculum: Survival of the Fittest

Our Survival theme continues with a focus on shelter. We will explore different types of shelter construction and will design and make prototypes.

Our Forest School visit last term will have given us plenty of ideas to help us be creative.

Maths:

This term, we will continue to develop our math skills in the run up to SATs. Together we will solve a range of problems which will cover the key aspects of maths. Extra time will be spent on improving our arithmetic skills in preparation for the test.

Transition Dates:

For children going to Marsden Heights and Pendle Vale, transition dates are on the 28th and 29th June. If your child is going to a school outside of Pendle, they should write to you confirming transition arrangements. Please let us know when your child has been invited to transition at their new high school.

Design and Technology: We will be exploring the way in which we can design products for a purpose. Our shelters will need to be appropriate for the person we are designing it for.

Rights Respecting School: This term we are focusing our learning on the right to a family life. We will be empathetic when discussing difficult issues and will consider how the rights that all children have should be met.

PE: Year 6 children will be having their athletics track morning at Seedhill on Wednesday 18th April. They must make sure they have PE kit in school, plus a sun hat and sun cream if the weather is good.

SATs As it is looking highly likely that Ramadan will fall during SATs week, we strongly advise that children do not fast and maintain a regular and early bedtime.

Disruption to sleep patterns could have an adverse effect on their performance in tests.
