Friday 13th April 2018 Our News! A big thank you to those of you who managed to come to the Open Afternoon on the last day. It was a lovely afternoon and the children enjoyed sharing their learning with you, so much! Thank you for sending in the christening artefacts and photographs for the children to share with their class and also for the spring plants that have so far been sent in for our investigation table. The children have all amazed us with how well they have settled back into their school routines after the Easter holidays. They are also very responsible in coping with the change to the end of the school day routine. We can certainly see how much they are growing up and by the end of the term will be more than ready for their move to Year 1. The children were brilliant at describing to us all how they celebrated Easter at home with their families. We were able to talk about the differences and similarities with this celebration between families. In phonics, for the next few weeks, we will be recapping over applying all of our phase 3 phonic skills, in particular the writing of these sounds and the tricky words. In mathematics the children have enjoyed comparing, ordering, measuring and problem-solving with length, width, height and size. They are able to now use a wider range of vocabulary such as widest, wider, tallest, shorter and so on. In topic time we have been learning all about the season of spring and have very much enjoyed exploring our school grounds to look for different signs of spring! Although we were amazed that we didn’t spot any lambs!! Miss Rickus does however hope to be able to bring in some lambs for us see over the next few weeks!! We have used our technology skills to take photographs, with our iPads, of the signs of spring that we spotted. We have also read a lovely story called Hattie Peck, all about a hen that wants an egg of her own. This has led us to find out more about different animals that lay eggs. Ask the children if they can tell you which animals they know lay eggs?
STARS OF THE WEEK Leni-Rae Kidd for her fantastic effort in school with whatever she does and Codey Peters for setting such a wonderful example to the rest of the class in our first week back. Our next newsletter will be on Friday 27th April and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned. Any questions please don’t hesitate to ring, email or come and see us.
