Summer 1st Half-term 2018

Curriculum Overview for Foundation Stage/Ducklings Spring/Life cycles/Animals from different environments

Communication & Language  Being able to respond to stories they have read or heard, able to predict outcomes, retell or recall main events and answer questions  Understanding how and why questions about different animals and plants  Following simple instructions For planting seeds

 Listening to a range of stories and reading information texts about the topic, such as Six Little Chicks, Teeny Weeny Tadpole, Handa’s Surprise, Oi, Frog and Hattie Peg.  Listening to their friends in the vet role play, responding to questions about their pets  Listening to a visiting vicar about their job, thinking of questions to ask about the church

 Talking about their pets and experiences of other animals  Giving their own explanations, for e.g. why things change during the season of spring.  Speaking in sentences that are grammatically correct, in terms of verb tense, for e.g. I fed the dog, I will take the dog for a walk.  To use a new words related to animals/life cycles and changes in their play and conversations.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development  

 Talking about what they are good at, what they like to do, our ‘Good to be me!’ topic Explaining to the class about what they have been doing or learning, sharing this in our end of day reflection and focus time, looking at work and photographs, celebrating achievements

 

 Learning how to think more

about others and their feelings Looking at different feelings, What makes them feel happy,  Turn taking in games, playing sad, angry, proud, nervous? and working cooperatively in groups together  Exploring how to respond appropriately to different feelings that we experience  Working towards achieving credits on our Carleton Code passports for examples of positive behaviour

Being able to blend and read words and captions with Phase 3 phonemes in Recognising by sight the tricky and high frequency words from phase 2,3 and 4 and applying this in their reading Being able to apply the above skills in their guided reading with the teacher and at home in their individual reading books To show that they have understood what they have read by recalling main events, characters and information accurately. Literacy/Writing   

Being able to segment and spell words and captions with Phase2 and 3 phonemes in as well as phase 4 consonant clusters Beginning to write some of the tricky and high frequency words in their independent writing correctly Writing simple captions and sentences which can be read by themselves and others, for e.g. what animals and plants need, labelling and describing different animals and plants Some words to be spelt correctly and others that are phonetically plausible Continues a rhyming string

Exploring the similarities and differences between plants and other animals Finding out how plants/animals grow and change Matching adult animals and their young Observing plants and animals and how to care for them in our garden Going on Spring welly walks to look for signs of Spring To find out how different environments vary

Physical Development Health & Self care

Role playing in the vet/garden centre role play area Singing, dancing and moving to new songs that they are learning about animals, plants and spring, reading and moving to ‘Doing the animal bop!’ Using the small world farm to tell stories such as Rosie’s walk and Handa’s surprise.

Mathematics/Shape,Space & Measures    
