Shine Together

Digital Hub

We provide a learning environment which is creative, relevant and enjoyable, where learning becomes a life skill, allowing all children to become valued and active members of our community. We celebrate achievement together and teamwork is a key element of our ethos.

We have a dedicated Digital Hub with touch screen technology, which is used for computing skills teaching.

Happy and Nurturing Learning Environment We are a safe and happy school where we encourage all children to make mistakes, learn and try again. All our classrooms are very well resourced. Each has an interactive whiteboard, laptops, tablets and computing devices for cross-curricular IT learning.

Lisa Lewis:Godley Community Primary Academy is at the heart of Godley. All members of staff are friendly and supportive and I feel very lucky to be able to leave my child in such a nurturing environment. My children have been going through the school over the last 8 years and it gets better and better, with more opportunities and experiences.

School Day School hours Doors open at 8.50am and home time is at 3:30pm Nursery: Session: 9.00am to 12.00pm Reception and Key Stage 1: Morning session: 9.00am to 12.05pm Afternoon session: 1.20pm to 3.30pm

Key Stage 2: Morning session: 9.00am to 12.20pm Afternoon session: 1.20pm to 3.30pm

Wraparound Clubs ‘Purple Planet’ Breakfast Club runs from 8.00am to 9.00am and is for children age 3 to 11 years.

Our Stay and Play Club is also available for children from Reception to Year 6, and runs from 3.30pm until 6.00pm.

The club offers a healthy snack.

Uniform Uniform is worn at Godley Community Primary Academy to develop a sense of pride in being a member of the school community, and we expect parents to support this by ensuring all pupils follow the dress code. Please speak to the school office staff for our list of uniform suppliers.

Please note that all children will also need a P.E. bag, which are available from the school. A school reading bag will be donated to children in Foundation Stage.

School Meals and Snacks Mellors run our school kitchen, which is based on healthy eating guidelines. Children have a choice of menu. All children in Reception and Key Stage 1 are entitled to a free school meal.

Alternatively children can bring a healthy packed lunch.

Kitchen garden

Break-time Children under 5 are able to have a free carton of milk if they wish and milk is available to order for children throughout the rest of school.

Drinks Children are encouraged to drink water and all pupils have their own water bottles, which are provided by the school.

Every class has their own kitchen garden allotment to grow fruit and vegetables and we enjoy cooking and eating our produce.

Curriculum The curriculum is divided into three stages: Early Years Foundation Stage: from ages 0-5 years Key Stage 1: from ages 5-7 years Key Stage 2: from ages 7-11 years

Key Stages 1-2

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum is based on seven areas of learning:

At Godley Community Primary Academy we provide the children with a rich and broad curriculum within which all pupils can learn and achieve.

Each curriculum theme starts with an exciting ‘wow moment’, that hooks the children’s interests and begins each topic with a bang! The curriculum is enhanced for pupils in a variety of ways both within school, the local community and the wider world. These include trips for each year group incorporating learning themes and a residential trip for Year 6.

We also have specific theme weeks throughout the academic year such as ‘Healthy Week’ and ‘Arts Week’. We have had many fantastic themes for arts week and an array of special visitors and events such as ice sculptors and our very own beach in the playground. In addition to this we also

have a number of enjoyable theme days, for example ‘World Book Day, “French Day” and “Eco” day

Sport There are many opportunities for extra- curricular sport and team games. We are keen to provide our pupils with the widest range of activities that will allow them to develop their full potential. We are fully involved in all forms of sports, including swimming for our Year 4 children. We also have a number of successful sporting teams.

Our aims for sport are: · to encourage a love of sport that will stay with our pupils for life

· to foster qualities of team spirit, self-confidence, playing within rules and self-discipline · to help our pupils to understand the benefits of regular exercise and an active lifestyle.

School Council: children have a voice in school Two children from each year, Reception to Year 6, are elected onto the Council. The School Council also includes a governor and school staff. It ensures that children’s opinions are heard and valued, and that they are involved in running the school.

Extended Curriculum: trips and visits Visits play an essential role in enriching the curriculum and they take place on a regular basis. These include visits to: • theatres • museums • seaside trips • local places of worship.

Rewards At Godley we have a whole school reward system in place. Our ‘Green is Great’ system rewards positive behaviour at the end of each week with activities such as ICT, Rounders, Dance and Art and Craft. All of the children in our school belong to their own house team (Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, Mercury and Saturn). House points are awarded to children for positive behaviour and individual achievements, resulting in a house treat at the end of each term.

Communicating with parents Parents/Carers are informed of their child’s achievement, attainment, progress and targets throughout the year and receive a written report in the summer term.

Assessments The class teachers assess each child’s development across the curriculum through Teacher assessments, learning observations, marking, testing and discussion.

Planner All children from Nursery upwards are given a planner for parents and staff to communicate with each other in supporting the children’s learning.

Newsletters and ‘Golden’ assemblies A weekly on-line newsletter, The Friday News, provides details of what is happening at Godley and archived copies of the newsletter are available on the school website. In addition we regularly hold ‘Golden Assemblies’ where children perform in front of the whole school and parents.

Kerri Shaw:I can honestly say we have a close knit, caring and loving family school where even the dinner staff, teaching assistants and helpers are close to the children. There never appears to be any major issues or negativity within the school. My world is a happier place knowing my child and friends and families children are safe, cared for and extremely happy at Godley Community Primary Academy.

Inclusion: a curriculum for all Special Educational Needs Inclusive education is a high priority in our school and we work hard to ensure that all children reach their potential.

There are times when some children may possibly need extra support in their learning or with their behaviour and we will closely monitor their progress.

Individual programmes We offer support provision and implement individual programmes for children with difficulties in the following areas: - Speech and Language, Motor Skills, Social and Emotional Needs, Specific Learning (SPLD) and Visual and Hearing Impairment.

External agencies We work closely with external agencies in matching provision to need by writing individual education plans (IEP’s) and providing one to one or small group support.

Trained staff Appropriate staff have received additional training to work with children with SPLD, Social and Emotional Needs and learning in Reading and Maths. The Inclusion Manager has the NASENCO award.

Gifted and talented children We recognise that all children are individuals with their own specific needs, gifts and talents. If pupils demonstrate that they are Gifted and Talented, we will provide personalised learning and extension activities.

Clubs There are a wide variety of clubs for children from Reception to Year 6. These include: • Gardening • French • Book Club • Art Club • Maths Club • Choir

• ICT • Craft Club • Dancing • Godley Noise

Arts We regularly take part in community events focusing on the Expressive Arts and welcome visitors to school to share their expertise in drama, music and other art forms.

Natalie Arrowsmith:Godley Community Primary Academy is an excellent, caring environment which seeks to promote progress to achieve the highest standards. My son who is in Foundation Stage is very happy here and is thriving on learning because he is settled in the environment around him. We could not be more impressed with the school.

Admissions All children are admitted in the academic year of their fifth birthday in the autumn term and attend school full time.

Applications To apply for a place in reception class parents are requested to complete an on-line application form. Places are allocated in accordance with the Enquire Learning Trust criteria and policy.

School admission Our published school admission number each year is 30, although this can vary in exceptional circumstances where children have won an appeal.

Getting involved PTA Godley Community Primary Academy has a very enthusiastic Parent and Teachers’ Association (PTA), which contributes a lot for the children. The PTA has contributed towards: • pantomime visits • school coach trips • Year 6 Crucial Crew • Foundation Christmas party show • outdoor equipment • music equipment.

We encourage as many parents/carers as possible to get involved, attending events at the school or simply sharing ideas and experiences with us.

Governors Our Governors are a group of volunteers who are dedicated and committed to our school. They meet

formally six times a year and discuss the strategic direction of the school and monitor our finances.

Governing body The Governing Body consists of representatives of parents, teachers and the Enquire Learning Trust. They work closely with the staff and Senior Leadership Team to support the school and plan its strategic developments.
