Expected Impact Raises the standard of PE and sport across school by providing pupils with high standard equipment and resources. By ensuring resources are readily available, children have the opportunity to, for example, have a ball each when practising football or a racket each when playing tennis. This, in turn, increases the amount of practice they get and helps them to develop skills at a greater rate.

Enables school to provide children with balls, rackets and other resources for use during lunch and playtimes.

Enables our children to plan, officiate and play games that they have learned in curriculum PE in their free time, thus providing opportunities for intra-school competitive sport and leadership roles for older children Enables school to provide Active Maths lessons during the school day, and going towards the Active 30 Minutes that we are offering on a daily basis to all children.

All Staff members undertook the Maths of the Day Training as a Twilight CPD to enable them to deliver the program effectively.

Employing a full-time Sports Leader to work alongside the PE Lead has greatly improved the quality of PE & sport on offer.

All classes from nursery through to Yr.6 now access 2 hours of PE weekly led by a PE specialists.

Employing a Sports Leader also enables us to increase (a) the number of morning and after-school clubs which we run and (b) the number of teams run and competitive fixtures attended.

The Sports Leader also plays an important role in promoting PE and sport throughout the school, supporting student teachers in the delivery of PE lessons and planning & assessing children across the school.

We offer a wide range of extra-curricular clubs termly, the majority of which are sport or dance related.

Clubs are predominantly run by external coaches and are offered to children free of charge.

Clubs on offer take account of the wide range of interests of our children and include football, netball, Street Dance, Multi-sports, Rugby, Dodgeball plus many more.

Clubs are an excellent way of encouraging our children to explore new activities and also to consolidate skills learned in curriculum PE. Clubs are used as a pathway to school teams with many children progressing to represent school in competitive fixtures throughout the year.

Purchase of Balance Bikes and Helmets to enable PE staff to deliver ‘Balanceability’ training to EYFS and KS1 children. This will provide all children with a life-long skill at an early age. This will mean the all staff teaching PE and School Sport at St Mary’s will have this qualification. This will lead to a higher quality of PE and Sports Provision that is on offer to the children.

Less active children are targeted and encouraged to attend the Change4Life Club. The children involved develop self-confidence and leadership skills which they can then transfer into their curricular PE lessons and extra-curricular clubs. Children are monitored to ensure that they are then attending at least one other club on a weekly basis and seek to address their inactivity at home also.

SEND children are then given opportunities to compete against children from other schools in a range of sporting activities throughout the year ie...Boccia, New Age Curling, Dodgeball, Golf

Funding used to broaden the range of equipment used and to replace existing equipment. ’Daily Mile’ on school playground every day at 2.15pm This provides children throughout the school with the opportunity to complete the Daily Mile and goes towards the Active 30 minutes that we aim to offer all children on a daily basis.

A recommendation of the Greater Manchester Headteachers Alliance and promoted by Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham which is a great initiative of ensuring that children are exercising each day.

Children will understand how to be able to recognise our emotions - to know calming relaxation technique - to know where to seek extra help.

This will help all our children to develop their emotional literacy and awareness of when they might need further support with their feeling.

Children at St Mary’s access a full year of swimming instruction, throughout Year 4, to enable them more opportunity to meet the end of KS2 target of 25m unaided.

Sustainability Using funding to develop our resources provides a sustainable PE curriculum, one which will benefit pupils over the coming years. Investing in our equipment and provision also means that we can offer a wider range of sporting activity and eliminate the likelihood of lessons being cancelled due to adverse weather. This should ensure that all children will access High quality PE teaching, led by a qualified subject specialist, throughout the year.

Based on evidence gathered when assessing the use of last year’s sports premium funding, employing a full-time Sports Leader has greatly improved the quality of PE & Sport at St Mary’s.

It allows us to embed PE in greater depth at Nursery and EYFS level which will ensure that children are given more opportunity to develop the necessary moving & handling skills required.

This should, in turn, positively impact on the physical literacy of those children over the coming years.

Similarly, being an active part of the Rochdale Borough School Games Partnership and Middleton Primary School Sports Association has enabled us to progress from only taking part in fixtures with neighbouring schools to engaging with sport in Rochdale Borough and Greater Manchester and its allows us to provide regular, competitive sporting opportunities to children throughout school.

Finally, investing in staff and ensuring that they have access to high-quality CPD enables St Mary’s to offer an up-to-date curriculum beyond this year. It provides opportunities for the teachers and other staff who shape our PE and sport provision to regularly update their knowledge and introduce new activities and practices which will benefit school over the coming years.
