Forest School @ Flowery Field. ‘Forest School’ is a long term process with frequent and regular sessions in a natural environment encourages children to take carefully supervised, risks that are appropriate to their ages and abilities as they use the environment. This project is very child-centred in its approach to learning, where planning, adaptation, observation and review are critical elements. It looks to develop a relationship between learners and the outdoor world. ‘Forest School’ aims to support the learning in school and promote the holistic development of individuals, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.

Outside learning opens the mind, and lets the child see with new eyes, ready to learn in different ways.

Getting Outdoors The ethos of Forest school encourages the children to be outdoors in all weathers and all seasons. This means that children need to bring in a ‘Forest school’ bag when they are doing it with their class. Inside should be a full change of clothes appropriate to the weather and season. Sturdy trainers, boots or wellies, Socks, Long trousers, Long-sleeved top, waterproof jacket, waterproof over trousers (or a spare pair if wet) A light water bottle (they can use their school bottle). A small rucksack. Hat/woolly hat. (sun or cold) An extra layer is useful in the rucksack in case weather changes or wind has a chill. Even when sunny and warm at the start, a cold wind can make a big difference and the woodland is shady. We will go out in most weathers come rain or shine. More thin layers are best for warmth and can always be removed if too warm. Please use old clothes and let your child know that at
