EAGLES CURRICULUM JIGSAW – SPRING TERM 1 English Writing will focus on two non-fiction areas – balanced arguments and nonchronological reports. Within that key spelling rules (silent letters, suffix and prefix rules will be taught. SPaG will concentrate on clauses & phrases, verb forms and active & passive voice and how to identify the differences. of word classifications; understanding and identifying clauses and phrases. Reading will focus on comprehension technique; evidencing inference at a deeper level and providing reasoned justification for their views on a particular character or event. MATHEMATICS      

Statistics – reading and interpeting data from a range of graphs and charts. Fractions – multiplying and dividing them, ordering them and applying that knowledge in context of real life problems. Angles and the rules of angles within shapes. Co-ordinates – the rules and using and applying. Ratio & proportion Further developing skills in using and applying the 4 operations in the context of word problems, reasoning and explanation.

ART: Islamic Art creation of Mandala’s using through clay. The children will work creatively, adapting ideas, and taking risks when choosing tools, materials and media to produce a ceramic clay tile in the style of Islamic art. They will record thoughts and experiences in a sketch book and review and revisit these ideas. They will learn to be creative with their choice of tools and develop their own style through studying types of art.

GEOGRAPHY – through WW2 Children will learn:

To ask and respond to questions such as what happened in the past that caused? ; How is it likely to change in the future? To interpret maps including scale, projections, thematic and digital maps. To name and locate an extensive range of places in the world. To use geographical language to explain key human and physical features and make links between people & places. To produce longer pieces of writing with a geography focus.

HISTORY – through a study of Golden Islamic Age Children will learn to: Describe key aspects of a non-European society such as the early Islamic civilisation. To acknowledge contrasting evidence and opinions. Choose the most appropriate way of communicating different historical findings. To describe the impact of historical events and changes. To understand contracting arguments and interpretations of the past. To use dates and a wide range of historical terms. To develop your own historical questions and hypotheses.

PSHE – The children will learn about resolutions, relationships and friendships and money management. There will also be follow-up work from an anti-bullying theatre company.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

RE Q: Where can people find guidance on how to live their lives? To understand how people who follow the Islamic religion use their god Allah as guidance. To consider religious and public figures who we consider have lived a good life. Why is it important to live a good life?

COMPUTING Children will learn to:

SCIENCE The children will learn that: Science this half term will focus on FORCES. The children will cover the following objectives through practical investigations and explanatory write ups.   

THERE ARE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FORCES (PUSH, PULL, FRICTION, AIR RESISTANCE, WATER RESISTANCE, MAGNETIC FORCES, GRAVITY) WHICH HAVE DIFFERENT EFFECTS ON OBJECTS IDENTIFY THE EFFECTS OF AIR RESISTANCE, WATER RESISTANCE AND FRICTION THAT ACT BETWEEN MOVING SURFACES (CAUSING THINGS TO SLOW DOWN) EXPLAIN THAT UNSUPPORTED OBJECTS FALL TOWARDS THE EARTH BECAUSE OF THE FORCE OF GRAVITY ACTING BETWEEN THE EARTH AND THE FALLING OBJECT. GRAVITY CAN ACT WITHOUT DIRECT CONTACT BETWEEN THE EARTH AND AN OBJECT.
