NEWSLETTER WEEK ENDING 16TH FEBRUARY 2018 WEDNESDAY WORD – LENT Have a happy and safe half term School re-opens Monday 26th February at 8.50 am Twitter @saintoswalds MONTY DOG - is visiting school on Monday 26th February. All the children will have the opportunity to meet him and his owner and ask questions about being a writer or about Monty. If you wish your child to buy the storybook inspired by Monty they can bring £5.99 to school on the day. There will be chance to buy the book on the Tuesday and Wednesday from the office too. WORLD BOOK DAY- is on Thursday 1st March. The children can come to school dressed as a character from a book and bring up to 2 books for a book swap. STRIDER - the Walk to School mascot visited us on Monday - he was pleased to see how many children are walking to school and thanks the parents for not bringing cars onto Council Avenue. We aim to reduce the cars to Blue Badge holders only. GUITAR RECITAL - well done to the Year 4 pupils who demonstrated their guitar playing and singing abilities to their families at the recital on Thursday morning. The children sang and played their instruments extremely well. We didn’t realise that we had so many budding Taylor Swifts and Ed Sheerans within our school! CROSS COUNTRY - Congratulations to Ben Trueman who came 2nd in the Greater Manchester Cross Country competition in a field of 180 runners. A fantastic achievement! VOLLEYBALL - Well done to Caitlin Harrison, Lucy Haigh, Harry Ewing, Alexis Aaron, Chloe Banks, Rose McConnell, Dylan Ratcliffe, Tonis Tomkus and Sam Lloyd who took part in a Volleyball competition at St. Edmund Arrowsmith after school on Wednesday. They split into 2 teams and both teams came 3 rd in their groups. Overall, they came 5th and 6th out of the 10 teams who took part. MATHS ROADSHOW - Well done to the Y5 pupils who represented us at a Maths Roadshow at St. Edmund Arrowsmith on Thursday: Thomas Earley, Nathaniel Maddock, Matthew Atherton, Poppy O’Donoghue, Daniel Williamson, Charlotte Dunne, Jordan Daley and Emma Winnard. WINNING HOUSE - The house that earned the most housepoints for this half term was St George’s. Well done to everyone in St George’s house. The children enjoyed an extra play to celebrate. DINNER MONEY - for the next half term is £49.45 per child. Please note this is payable on Monday mornings only. Please contact the office if you wish to pay for school dinners via direct debit. TOAST MONEY - for the next half term is £6.90 per child and again payable on Monday mornings only. UNIFORM - There are a number of children wearing trainers to school instead of shoes. Please refer to the uniform requirements in our school prospectus which can be found on the school website. Trainers can be brought into school for use at lunchtimes.
