Friday 16th February Wednesday Word – LENT Twitter - @saintoswalds THIS WEEK – During our Come and See sessions we have been talking about the story of Jesus and the children. Within Literacy, we listened to the Chinese Zodiac story and wrote sentences about the story. In Maths, we have completed our Pre and Post-Learning tasks. During the afternoon sessions, we have been creating dancing dragons and lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year, which is on 16th February this year. We have used our dancing dragons to create our own Chinese dragon dances in the hall. During our phonics sessions we have focussed on Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – th, ng and the word they recapping he, me, be, we, she, see, was and they. Miss Woolley’s group – y and z, and will go over previously learned words and introduce we and me Mrs Ryan’s and Mrs Riding’s groups – th, ng and the word was recapping he, me, be, we, she, see, was and they. NEXT WEEK– During our Come and See sessions we will be finding out about all that we have learned during our topic of GATHERING and joining in with an end of topic celebration. Within Literacy, we will be finding out about Fairtrade and creating posters to promote Fairtrade. We will also be listening to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. In Maths, we will be starting our new topic on money learning the names of the coins and finding out their value. During the afternoon sessions, we will be planting seeds and finding out about what plants need to grow and the features of plants. The Medium Term plan is attached to the back of the snippets. WEEKLY CHALLENGE – Thank you for all your information sent in about Chinese New Year, it was very useful. This week we are not sending home any challenge. We would like the children to enjoy their half term holiday and come back refreshed and ready to learn on the 26th February. INSPIRE SESSIONS FOR THE SPRING TERM – We will be holding one more INSPIRE session next term where you will be able to come into school and work with your child on a variety of different activities. We hope that you or a representative can attend this session. Understanding the World Inspire – Thursday 15th March – Class 1G 9am – 11.20am Class 1K – 1.10pm -3.30pm HEAD LICE – Please be vigilant and check your child’s hair daily. GOOD SHEPHERD –After half term we will be raising money towards the Good Shepherd Collection. Classes have a set date to bring cakes into school and sell to other classes. Please remember that our date for cakes is the week beginning Monday 26th February. Children can buy cakes for 10p each. CREATIVE CLUB – Due to the number of children interested in staying for the Creative Club, we will need to split the sessions into two blocks. Your child will bring home a letter tonight informing you of which block your child is in.
