NEWSLETTER WEEK ENDING 9TH FEBRUARY 2018 WEDNESDAY WORD – COMPASSION CLASS 5 ASSEMBLY - was held this morning. The theme of the assembly was Thanksgiving. Well done to all the pupils and thank you to the parents and family members who attended. There is no assembly next week. SAFER INTERNET DAY 2018 - was on Tuesday and the children took part in age related activities about staying safe whist online and using the internet with respect. There are photos on the website and video clips on twitter. The CEOP site for parents is constantly updated and provides valuable support in knowing how to protect your child from abuse online. The site provides advice for parents who are concerned about their children as well as those just looking to learn more about what they can do to keep their child safe online. Visit the site at www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents ROBINWOOD 2018 - Our Year 6 spent 3 wonderful days at Robinwood Outdoor Activity Centre at Alston in Cumbria this week. They had a great time with lots of new and challenging experiences and returned home exhausted but happy! There is an album of photos on our twitter and flickr. ERIC COHEN - visited our Y6 pupils this week to talk to them about the Holocaust and his own family experience of this. Deacon Paul our RE Governor and Ann Snagg from the Peace Foundation also attended. The children found the session very interesting and informative and asked many questions. Y4 AND Y5 MATHS INTERSCHOOL CHALLENGE - two teams have represented St Oswald’s very well at Nicolmere this week. Well done to Xavier Murphy, Solene Allen-McLellan, Lois Jones, Jacob Martin, Nathaniel Maddock, Scott Veivers, Emma Winnard and Poppy O’Donoghue. HALIFAX BANK - Foundation Stage and Keystage 1 had a fantastic day with Jenny and Jimmy from the Halifax Bank. The children heard stories and completed activities to help them to understand the importance of saving money. See our twitter page for photos. SAY HELLO TO STRIDER - the Walk to School mascot will be meeting and greeting pupils and parents on Monday morning on KS1 and KS2 playground. See if you can spot him and say hello!! We continue to encourage pupils to walk to school (even if this is just from the market car park it counts towards them earning their badge) as we need to reduce the number of cars on Council Avenue. MONTY DOG - Monty is an enormous Newfoundland dog and has inspired his owner MT Sanders to become an author. Mr Sanders will be visiting school on Monday 26th February and talking to the children about the storybook he has written based on his dog Monty. The book is called “I’m not a Pandacow” and will be available for the children to buy if they wish on the day for £5.99 which includes a special £1 discount and a ‘pawtagraph’. Monty the dog will be accompanying Mr Sanders so the children will all be able to spend time with him too. See the reverse of the newsletter for further information.
