Friday 9th February Wednesday Word – COMPASSION Twitter - @saintoswalds THIS WEEK – During our Come and See sessions we started our new topic GATHERING. Within Literacy, we used the story The Smiley Shark and wrote sentences to describe the shark. In Maths, we have been naming and describing 3D shapes using the language of face, edges and vertices. During the afternoon sessions, we have been involved with Safer Internet day and Inspire sessions (sliding pictures will be worked on next week). The children have also been involved in Safer Internet day and a finance morning with the Halifax Bank. We also asked them for ideas for our Mother’s day Assembly which will be held next term. During our phonics sessions we have been focussing on Mrs Gill’s and Mrs Hart’s group – sh, ch and the word was recapping he, me, be, we, she and see. Miss Woolley’s group – w and x, and have gone over previously learned words and introduced he and be Mrs Ryan’s and Mrs Riding’s groups – sh, ch and the word was recapping he, me, be, we, she and see. NEXT WEEK– During our Come and See sessions we will starting our new topic GATHERING. Within Literacy, we will are using the Chinese Zodiac story and writing sentences about the story. In Maths, we will be naming and describing 3D shapes using the language of face, edges and vertices and completing our Pre and Post-Learning tasks. During the afternoon sessions, we will be creating moving pictures related to the story we have read in literacy. We will also be creating dancing dragons and lanterns to celebrate Chinese New Year which is on 16th February this year. WEEKLY CHALLENGE – Thank you for the handwriting homework. This week we are asking the children to find out facts about Chinese New Year. These will help when we complete a mini topic on Chinese New Year. Please send these facts into school. If the children ask you any questions about Chinese New Year write them down and send these into school so that we can add them to our display. INSPIRE SESSIONS FOR THE SPRING TERM – We will be holding two more INSPIRE session over this term where you will be able to come into school and work with your child on a variety of different activities. We hope that you or a representative can attend these sessions. Understanding the World Inspire – Thursday 15th March – Class 1G 9am – 11.20am Class 1K – 1.10pm -3.30pm PARENT INTERVIEWS – On Monday 12th February we will be holding our Parent Interviews. You have been provided with a time, which is inside your child’s Learning Journey file. Within the file is your child’s interim report and attendance report. You will also have the opportunity to fill in a parent and child voice sheet along with any WOW moments/observations that you have made on your child on the SEE SAW app. It is important that you fill in these sheets as they also contribute to your child’s overall profile achievement at the end of the year.
