Friday 9th February 2018 Our News! Well, what a busy few weeks we have had in the Ducklings’ classes!! The arrival of the Naughty Bus has been met with great excitement and has really inspired the children with their learning. The story has inspired them to write their own naughty toy bus adventure stories and to draw and write about where we have found the Naughty Bus each day. This week the Naughty bus disappeared completely and the children enjoyed writing WANTED posters to see if we could find it. They have enjoyed sequencing and retelling the story in their own words, as well learning a Naughty Bus song to help them. Ask them to sing it to you! They have painted Naughty bus pictures and built a London city out of building bricks for the bus to drive around. Using the small world people they have made queues of passengers waiting at the bus stop and numbered them with ordinal numbers. In the story the Naughty Bus falls into the pond because it is admiring its reflection. The children have used this idea to investigate which objects or materials the bus can see its reflection in. Outside the children have loved turning the crates and large building materials into buses and have enjoyed pretending to fix them, after breaking down. They are also able to use different positional vocabulary to describe the position of the Naughty Bus, wherever it has been found. In mathematics they are becoming really confident at using different combinations of coins to make different amounts. They have also been introduced to subtraction, using real objects such as skittles and pictures of objects to help them create their own subtraction number sentences. On Tuesday we put on our puddle suits and wellies and wrapped up warm to go out and explore the snow. Even though there was only a small amount of snow we still had great fun making snow angels and footprints on the ground, making mini snowmen and rolling and throwing snowballs to practise our throwing and aiming skills! The children also loved their Naughty Bus ride! A big thank you to all of the helpers. STARS OF THE WEEK Blossom Briggs for using her phonics well in her reading and writing and Evie Draper for her never-ending enthusiasm to learn! Isla Shaw for amazing money maths and Ollie Martin for his wonderful enthusiasm when learning about the Naughty Bus. Our next newsletter will be on Friday 9th February and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned for the new term.
